My brother is interested in getting a tandem Hobie to take his kids out fishing. The best options appear to be the Oasis or Compass Duo. Any thoughts on the two?
I see the Compass Duo doesn't have mesh pockets which make great locations for Scotty mounts.

As far as handling in small surf, anything to be aware of?
Thanks!
Andrew

I am not experienced with Compass Duo but been using Oasis for several years.
Oasis is very stable and handles water very well.  I use them primarily to fish with my wife.  For rough conditions, I strongly recommend getting Hobie Sidekick Ama.
My wife feels much safer with the sidekick.

The compass comes stock with hobies track system which can accommodate rod holders and other accessories. The oasis is the driest most stable tandem model that hobie makes. I have surfed the oasis, but it is not easy, it’s also heavy up front so I’m big surf  it’s easy to nose dive. I would go with the oasis, but I have not fished a compass

Thanks guys.
Isao, yeah I saw the track system on the Compass, but my initial thoughts are that those tracks might not handle a downrigger and rod holder?

Oasis is $1000 more with a bigger weight capacity and gives you the big front hatch so you can store bulky gear and/or lots of seawater inside the hull.

Come out to GS and you can take my Oasis for a spin.

Hi Andrew, hobie replaced the old outfitter with compass duo? If that is the case, I do NOT recommend it. I had bad experience with the outfitter. I just got my oasis back from the shop and pending for some rigging. Hopefully, I can take it out with my wife for the first time soon. Generally, I think it is a lot safer to go with a bigger tandem if it is available. That 100lb of extra capacity could mean ocean worthy or not.

I am a newb here, but so far I love my Oasis.  The advantages it has over the compass duo is weight capacity, 180 drive, and storage space.  I got mine used and it came with scotty mounts installed under the mesh netting- works for me

Is there an advantage of one over the other to take solo?  Finding a good tandem that works as a solo yak could be the best of both worlds, but it seems like the rear seat is way back and the weight distribution could be off in both cases unless you place gear up front.

I use my oasis with my kids or friends too . My suggestion is which ever you decided  to get just add sidekick Ama on to them and it will make world of difference on the water.
