Not trying to bash the vid. Hope folks can benefit and learn from it. Think Safety even on the calmest waters.

Stay and be safe folks.

Very fortunate they weren’t in deeper water and shore was relatively close.

No PFD, no immersion gear and a SinK that appeared to lack sufficient secondary stability.

I’m glad it didn’t turn out worse.

I liked the part where he says to the guy in hypothermic shock, “save yourself, I’m going back for my fishing rod.” :smt012

I like how he starts the video by stating that his nephew almost drowned as a kid and is terrified of the water (maybe he doesn’t even know how to swim?). And then he takes him kayaking without a PFD.

Yes, I thought the same thing. It's nuts.
Are you pondering what I’m pondering?

Wow so many bad decisions leading up to the dunking. It's great, however, that he swallowed his pride and posted it so others could learn. Thanks for posting jdr12345

I think the worst decision of the whole fiasco was him not helping dude get warm. If he wasn't thinking clearly, he surely could have wandered off or just didn't put on the warm clothes and get in the van.

Glad he recovered everything!

Definitely this. Makes me glad Wife and I keep space blankets in our dry boxes. Get that guy into dry clothes and into the van with the heater going and stay with him until he's coherent.

What a tool: hey, my kayak saved your life! No, your incredible stupidity almost got him killed.  On top of putting an inexperienced person in the SInK, he propped him up on 2 or 3 cushions and elevated his center of mass making that boat even more unstable.

Were the host more with it, beyond requiring safety gear, he'd have put the newbie in the SOT and taken the SInK for himself. I've made the same error myself (with similar results). Never again.

The guy should have T'd the kayak, dumped the water then towed it back.

What an idiot.

Worst all is his attitude of assumed expertise.  Maroon.  Cousin wasn't even in water over his head.  (Plus he can't take a hook out?)

The kid did not look like he changed out of his wet clothes.
