Headed down to camp at Morro Bay on friday morning. Was met by the nice cool coastal fog after getting scorched by 100 degree heat on the way down. Saturday morning we set out to do the whole tourist thing in morro bay, avila, SLO...etc. Gotta build GAF right?  On the sight seeing we tried every shop around to find a wetsuit for the little lady. No luck. There just are no shops that stock anything. We finally found a dive shop in SLO that had a decent selection of suits but I was informed they were closing in 15 minutes and didn't have time for her to try a suit on  :smt013  I was pissed off by this point.

Had a hard time getting to sleep at the campground because the site next door had two screaming kids most of the night ( little babies that kept wailing ). Then the air matress gets a slow leak.  :smt011

Sunday morning I head up the coast to do some fishing and the little lady was going to stay in the truck. Most of the launches had some offshore wind and a good swell ~6ft. I finally launched out of San Simeon and fished for a couple of hours around the point in a now heavy wind. I tried working the offshore rocks, but got nervous when a few larger set came through and started to break. I head back to the kelp south of the pier but got blown around too much and called it a day. Not one legal fish caught. Managed 3 underlings and a baby cabbie.

Headed up to Hearst Castle for a tour.

Monday morning I packed up the site and headed home along hwy 1. Stopped in Monterey at MBK to just get a wetsuit once and for all but not of them worked for her, either too long or too tight...etc. *sigh*  They had a lot of scotty products marked 40% off for clearance. I picked up some 3 flush mounts, 3 side mounts, 2 gimball mounts and 2 anchor locks for $70. The wind was howling in MB.

A pretty disappointing trip fishing wise.

Bummer, dude.  Hopefully you had some decent campfire chow.

I've pulled the old "wait in the truck" number a few times on my wife.  A trick is to make sure she has a lot of fluids and reading material - Cosmo, VF, and some Hollywood type rags, like OK! and People.  Also, arming her with a walkie will let her bug you all the time youre out on the water, so she doesn't fell deserted (when youve done exactly that!)   :smt003

Depending on what the wetsuit is for should determine what ya need.
The prices here are so good that if ya need to alter it yourself it will still be worth it.

Plus they have a great return policy.

I hear ya on the screaming kids. Most of us go to a campground to get away from stress. Sleeping well is a big part of that. Don't make YOUR kids MY kids. If they invade the privacy of others then maybe they aren't ready for camping.

sorry you had a bad time down here.  when the swell & winds are up, generally the fishing's down.  on top of that it seems like it's been a little slower than normal.

Brian - It was good to see you down there.  Sorry I couldn't join you.  I'm pretty sure my nieces weren't the ones crying at night, but if they were...  Sorry about that!

Drove to Montana Del Oro on Monday.  We got there pretty late and the wind was blowing.  Pretty decent size waves but launchable.  Fishing probably would've been a b**** b/c of the wind.  There was a tandem kayak on the beach with a man and two young kids.  PFDs but no wetsuits.  I didn't see them launch but I bet they did after dragging the kayak to the south-side launch.  I saw two kayaks (no fishing gear) launch with no issue.  I don't think they had wetsuits on either...  Too cold for me w/o my wetsuit.

I'd like to fish there with better conditions.

As mentioned in other posts, its been slow inshore.  I would go N of San Simeon, and go to the outside of the kelp, but you might get different advice from others.  Anywhere you see much kelp can be promising.  The areas just N and S of San simeon, before piedras Blancas are the most sheltered.

I agree with Andy on the san simeon are being sheltered. There is a good amount of shallow kelp to the south of the launch, which by the way is very sheltered for a NW swell. I think a sw swell would blow it out though.  To the north there is a massive structure especially at the point but it was a death trap with the large sets rolling through.

Luffengwell is a southern version of the davenport launch. No surf break at the lauch and it looked to be filled with boiler rocks and structure. You can drive your vehicle to the beach and drop off and then drive back up the hill to park, very small hill.

I will post the pictures tonight of the southern ELK death hill launch.
