Those clamming trips to Lawson's were definitely the GOOD OLD DAYS.  Clamming with Sonny, the clam whisperer and playing in the mud.  It doesn't get much better than that!  Hard work, but the prize makes it all worthwhile.

I have work where I don't always have internet access, sometimes for days.  It can take me awhile to respond, but that doesn't mean I don't care or appreciate everyone's help..I certainly do.

I didnt realize I didnt answer his question and just was telling him how to save $$. So.... The best place to buy the pipe if that's the rout you want to take is going to an actual landscaping supply store.... There is a place in Rancho Cordova off of Folsom Blvd called SiteOne Landscaping Supply. If anyone is doing any kind of landscaping or repairs, the should go here or a place like this. Home Depot and Lowe's charges about 70-80% more then these places and the supply places have everything. So the pipe you are after will be cheaper than if you special ordered it from one of these places but it's still going to be a decent amount of $! Try the bucket out first. It should be all you need.

I called Siteone and asked if they had 18" pvc pipe.  They said they didn't and referred me to Nomac which only had 12".  I wonder if what we are looking for is PVC pipe?  From the description, the wall seems much thicker than what they sell at Lawsons.  I'm sure the material is PVC but anyone have any idea what the technical name for it is?

That's crazy. I just drove by them about 15 min ago and there have a pallet of purple colored pipe that looks like it would be 18". It could very well be called something else. If I have the time tomorrow or Friday I'll stop by and talk to them and find out. I'll let you know what they say.

This thread made me dig my pipes out of the rafters. The 12” I bought at Lawson’s probably 25+ years ago, the 15” I inherited. The Lawson pipe feels more rigid, almost seems reinforced. Sadly the stamping on it is long gone. I attached a pic of the 15” stamp. Hopefully that info may be of use.

Last time I saw one was at a flea market several years ago. They wanted $50 for a 2’ 12”!

If you’d ever like to set up a clam session, I’ll bring both pipes, and you can use one. I haven’t dug in a long time, never have with a kayak.

When I'm clamming the big clams are usually 30"+. A 5 gallon bucket is too short. Reference: I've clammed 30+ times and got a geoduck before. Making sure you don't call me out like you did on Jerry. http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=86906.msg989719#msg989719

Back then we bought a 15ft of 18" Dia. Pipe from an irrigation & landscape store and had them cut it out to approximately 2 and a half Feet each.  The wall is much thicker than the 12" Dia. tube and a lot heavier.  I would prefer to use the 12"x24" tube nowadays for easy to transport.  Here is another fun day in the mud trip at LL  :smt003
