Back surgery

  The best advice one of my patients gave me?

  " Don't get Old !!! "

 I feel your pain y'all,,,

If I were put under a full body x-ray ,,,

 it looks like a bad jig saw puzzle ,, Oui Vey,,,

sad to say it also makes me feel better to hear your stories and tribulations of your back pain..

I'm in for sure,, 4 years ago,, 

Sacramento City Dr. (the bad guy,,,) but liked me as I always tried to go back to work,,

starts to list all the surgeries I'm going to have to do to stay in my job,,

Fusing vertebrates, abliging nerves in my neck and lower back,, I was having intense migraines and back would lock up and to help me,, Sac Fire would send me to "light duty " to drive the Chief around,, fucking kill me,,

no better incentive to get back on the job!!!

then the city dr. says, " or don't do that what makes this really bad and with that,, your retired, go enjoy your kids,",,

  " WHAT!!! shocking and was the best way to describe that, and do you know what kind of full-time sentence you have just put on me?,, 

 migraines went away and for the most part, things got better ...

and the kids weren't bad either ...

but then the pain train came back 4 months ago,,

left arm developed some sort of tennis elbow out of nowhere,, that limited my exercise routine,,

2 months ago,, I started getting that sciatica pain your y'all are talking about and that's my life now,,

I'm a master at working thru pain and self-healing,,, but this has literally been kicking my ass,,

 lots of research, experience and watching my fellow firefighters get whatever surgery they could as to stay in long as possible for a better retirement,,

 failing miserably,,,  brutal surgeries, again and again, that didn't really work,, etc,,, 

 but alas,,

 what does work?

 from experience and reading what ya guys are listing here, I feel it varies,
 

 One thing for sure,,

it's a fight,, and a certain amount of awareness about your situation


 I love the post about the " new age hippy guy,," cluing to awareness, breath, mediation?

 stress,

has much to do with this,, it's how ya got here, moving too fast,,  not aware,, etc,,

that's how mine pain will start,, my stress level, it's connected,,

that largest nerve in your body feels it,, then put the physical crap in with pinching and squashing nerves,, your fucked,,

 Going for a MRI tonight ,  Kool,!!!, Maybe they'll serve drinks?

 25 years ago,, at 9pm on a Friday night,,

the last place I think I would be, and be happy to be there,,   

Would be having an MRI,,,

My father-in -law suffered for years.  Waited til he could not feel his feet anymore.  three lower verte got fused .  He was back from hospital in two days, and riding his ten-speed within a couple weeks.

Ive got a bulging disc in my l1,all ive been doing is excercise,stretching,ice,posture.my job is extremely labor intensive,and i think poor posture and not watch how i do things did things did the most damage.good luck bro

Yeah its a bitch aint it .. almost 20 years ago  fell on concrete pour , L2-3,3-4,4-5 and L5-S1 all small partials .. then this year bam ...L2-3 and L5-S1 decided to finally go a little bit more  ....crazy

you to,whats messed up is i threw my back out almost exactly one year ago,and this year i jack up my shoulder and surgery on the 26.on top of that,my job will only pay 6months from the last day i worked.and the surgeon says,itll take 6 months after the surgery for me to recover so my family will be out of benefits.getting sucks

Looks like fun   My advice: Listen to your physical therapist for rehab.

I have 20 screws, three rods and a plate in my spine : broken neck (motor vehicle accident, rollover) and a broken back (climbing-related).  But I'm mostly doing OK.  The main problem for the past several years is that the first spinal surgery to install the plate in my neck probably nicked my esophagus, causing scar tissue to form over time, which in turn caused problems with swallowing.  I had to have surgery for that, too, which didn't work, and then lived on a feeding tube for a couple of months until my esophagus healed.  I still can't eat most solid foods.  I've had so much diagnostic x-ray exposure that I should be glowing by now.  But you do what you gotta do, and get on with life.  Stay strong.

Pulverized a disc pulling crab trap on my buddies boat. They removed about 30-40% of it 2 years ago..  went from a wheel chair to walking out of the hospital am hour after surgery.  Hope you fair as well as I did.  I still have pain but if I'm careful I can do whatever I want.  Best of luck to you.
