I got out really early this time, it ticked 8:59 as I exited the jaws. :smt044.

my trolling method did not turn up any fish today off the point. did use a
orange and gold rebel instead of blue and silver, but I think there were really
just very few fish there, unlike the last few weeks,  :smt013

craigh was out there and having similar luck so we went to the mitchells
cove kelp beds and got half limits of rockfish,  :smt001.

well, might be time to start trying to catch some live bait, maybe if there is
a next time for santa cruz for me, I'll head down towards capitola and bring
my bait tube.

I started the day late got to the harbor at 7am,  no wind no fog, great looking morning.  Paddled out and met and talk to Casey (another guy who walks to the harbor to launch   :smt118 )  He was having a slow day too, met up with John and headed to Mitchell's cove and fished the kelp.

It was a great day to be fishing, next time I go there I'll try and fish the holes in the kelp by the light house. On the way back going thru the kelp I was marking a lot of fish.

It only took me 4hrs to get home, :smt013 I did stop a couple of times, but the wreck on 152 didn't help.

Thanks John for showing me around, hope to do it again soon.

one thing that was interesting is that I have never had much luck with iron in santa cruz.

but craigh caught all his fish on iron with a fly teaser. I caught two fish on swimbait but
joined him with the iron for the rest of my fish. he said his blue came on the teaser,
but the rest on the iron and we caught from 25 to 40 feet, not much deeper.

Fished .75 mile out from Light house pt. for 1 black rockfish on a fishtrap, two weeks ago same place was great. Saw only a few sardines as far as bait. Moved into the kelp for a grass and a brown rockfish both on a fishtrap as well. Saw several schools of anchovies being chased around just inside the harbor entrance. Tried to catch whatever was after em with the fishtrap but only got a good tail tug, probably jacksmelt. Where are the halibut?
