Why do some of the herring guys on the piers dump their nets next to their cooler just so their friend can pick the herring up one by one and toss them in the cooler, rather than emptying the net directly into the cooler?

I've seen this several times and it always baffles me.

extending pole with a paint  roller handle does a great job for unsticking nets.

Cheers,

I have seen it many times and I don't get it either.  Someone offered me a net full once, I accepted and he dumped it right next to my cooler.  I thought he was being a dick, but then he did it to his own cooler too so I dunno.

Doesn't make sense.

I have friends to do just to weed out the smaller ones.

Why would you weed out the smaller ones?  I like getting smaller ones, reds and greens make better salmon bait.

Exactly! I actually vacuum pack the small ones and toss the biguns in ziplock.

Maybe they eat them and only want the BIG ones.

The small ones are perfect for Tuyo. I’ll post a pic of them in my dehydrator later after work.

Yea. It’s too cold and too much humidity in the air to have them dry quick. In the Summer I use old fashion Sun to dry them.
