I'm looking to swap out the dim yellow Halogen bulbs for something closer to white LED bulb's for my truck. The bulb style is 9004.  There are so many different manufactures online its hard to decipher which are good, which might be junk.  I want a bright white illumination out in front of my truck.  My current Sylvania bulbs are so so they do the job , but just barely I find I'm using high beams more often lately (Eyes are not 18yrs old any longer so there's that!)
Some have internal "Turbo fan" for cooling? That, to me screams future failure, so won't be getting /using a bulb with a fan in it, needs to have heat sink instead
Anyone here done a bulb swap like this? and happy with results?  If so, what brand are they and where'd ya get'em?

Thanks...

My youngest kids runs Kensun HID bulbs on his Acura that’s lowered to point it could get stuck on a bigger speed bump and I have been behind him.... there pretty damn bright. Just be sure there hard wired in not plug-N-play.... he found out the hard way. Check legality in your application.

What kind of truck do you have? DO NOT put in LED bulbs into a halogen reflectors. You will blind people on the road and the light will be scattered.  You can get away with this if your truck has projector lens. I did this to my Tacoma but that's only because my truck has projector lens and I'm able to adjust the beam output.

Anyways if you do have projectors I suggest the Hikari Philips LED headlights

I replaced my Chevy 1500 head lights with Xenon HIDs 5000k color and 55 watt ballast. very bright. I've had played around alot with different headlights and do not buy the cheap LEDs. they look bright when looking at your vehicle but they dont project well from the drivers seat. My brother went with Xenon's Led version and they are really nice and I plan on swapping over to them soon. They are both very bright but having the instant bright is nice and the HIDs take about 30 seconds to warm up to full strength. The leds with the inter cooler or fans are a must. The computer will over heat and burn out. Here's where I bought my lights and I have helped you out some..... https://www.xenonhids.com.

Search YouTube for headlight revolution.  They do all kinds of led comparison  There is all kinds of info on led headlights.  I would go with hid as you get a better beam pattern than with led.  Led beam patterns never seem to me all that good.

Yes, please do not put LED bulbs in a reflector housing.  It may "appear" to put out more light, but the light actually scatters wider and will blind incoming traffic.

Either stick with 9004 bulbs, here are some really good ones, though not super cheap:
- PIAA Xtreme White Plus.
- Sylvania Silverstar Ultra.
- Philips CrystalVision Ultra.

Or do an HID or Projector conversion to your housing AND get HID/LED bulbs.

LED are garbage... better off getting a spare headlights and retrofitting HID projectors like Morimoto.

  Truck is a 2002 Dodge ram 2500LB CTD 4X4 I watched a bunch of YT's already I currently have
Sylvania Silverstar Ultra bulbs and there both dim and Yellow.  Definitely need (Want) something a lot more white!  Didn't see anything about not putting LEDs into Halogen reflectors (Funny how that is?  Why I'm asking about them now... Thanks for the info, I had thought about HID prior to these but since I've converted all my Mag lights to LED thought the truck could benefit as well.

No one said you couldn't put LED bulbs in a reflector housing, factories make them because they'll sell and make a profit.  They don't care about the lighting quality, beam dispersion, and safety of others.  In a metropolitan area, I wouldn't do it because you are needlessly blinding others in front of you.  If you live in an isolated area, with no one else around, then it probably won't be a problem.

I dont know much about your vehicle, but I'm sure their are other Ram owners and enthusiasts who have done an HID mod with good success.  I'd consider something like this:

another thought, if you've not done so already, is try polishing the lenses in your existing lights. I know on my old cars ('95 & 2001), when the plastic yellows, the light output on the headlights drops dramatically.

THIS.

even my wife's '13 highlander benefited from polishing the lens and housing
