Fishing Humboldt County

Good Day all,
I just moved int the dorms here at HSU, and am looking into spots to fish in the county. I have been researching the area and the variety of regulations but am new to the area and am having a hard time figuring out where I can Fish/ Snare. Ive bought a steelhead report card and am looking forward to using it but really want to understand the regulations/ areas before going out.
Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated. Being a respectful angler is my number 1 priority, Im not trying to disrespect this beautiful area or its anglers by lacking proper information.

Today-

Nowhere.

The mad should come into shape in a week to 10 days. We are going to have a multi-week break in the weather with a dipole ridging event setting up. Then it’s game on for everything.

I’d be happy to meet with you over coffee sometime and give you the regulations rundown. We have a large group of dedicated and accomplished kayak anglers here and there’s a couple guides you can hire that will show you how to catch fish here. Most of our local kayak fishing community is not active on NCKA - they are mostly on Facebook.

First thing you should do is look at loletaeric YouTube channel. A lot of us got started there. Eric is one of the guides available for hire. He is active here on NCKA.

Mad River, Eel River, Smith River, Redwood Creek, Big Lagoon, Stone Lagoon, Trinidad, Shelter Cove, Cape Mendocino, Humboldt Bay...these are some great spots to fish around here. 

Hola Brine Angler, I have just made the move up here also....retired, and ready to fish. Have tried the Mad a few times...saw one 5 lb fish taken and fished Stone Lagoon with my friend releasing a 5 lb fish. 
   Will get real serious when salmon/rock fish open. Send me a message as I can fish at the drop of the hat!
   Crash called it... maybe next Wednesday the Mad will be in shape. There are also some Mad River events coming up... and I just joined The Mad River Alliance...hope to do some volunteering soon for them
