Many thanks to Bill and Chuck for a well-planned and executed event!

I'll admit that I was a bit disappointed my ling didn't quite measure up, but there's no one I'd rather lose to than Duane.  Karma, indeed.

WTG Duane, luck definitely plays a part, but first you have to do everything right.

I heard that today HMB area we fished at is like Victory at Sea.  Mike Sapp (solsrf) called and ssaaid it was outrageous whitewater everywhere we were fishing yesterday, by the point.  Looks like the swell picked up.  Good timing for us!

Thanks to all for the great pix.  I'm amazed especially at the launch photos.  All those fishing yaks!

Great to see or meet everyone yesterday, and we're really looking forward to the next big NCKA get-together.....

Also great to see Bob Franko and Ben Sleeter make an appearance at the shindig.  Franko wis very impressed with our breed of fishers, as well he should be.  Fish count for more when they are caught from a kayak.

Love to see some more pix from those that clicked 'em!

Hay everyone just got off work and man I am tired I think I passed out at 700pm
Last night I was so tired when I got home yesterday I could hardly make a post
As for pics I did not take any my cam is dead so I guess I will be getting a new one.

As for the GPS map it is from ‘Magellan meridian marine’ the software is
MAPSEND BLUENAV North America it came with the GPS’.
Real good stuff you can download from the GPS or too the GPS’ with
This software you can plan your trip on your pc and download to the GPS
And find your way too the waypoints you program so cool I just love it the whole day I knew Where I was at and could find my way back to the rocks and stay on the fish
This is the best map out there as far as GPS go’s it by far has the most detail
of all the maps out there.

If you have a MAGELLAN with MAPSEND software you have to save your
Track on the GPS first then upload to your PC and it will show your track
Line on the map then you do a screen capture then open paint and paste the
Screen capture and trim out what you don’t need then save as jpeg on your
Desktop or wherever you want.

As for the derby' man what a day it was great to see the big turnout
What will it be like 2 or 3 years from now 200 kayaks?

I tell you this much I can’t wait till ELK my 40 friends are excited
To go to I will choose the biggest and the best for that one + I have
And new weapon that I am working on but it won’t help me catch
Any fish but it will make the day much easier.

will be doing a live bait trip real soon look for the post
free bait for everyone or as manny as I can do the record
is 7 yakers so far but I think I can beat that.

Chris... funny you ask.  I was so beat, I almost fall asleep at the wheel (not good!).  When I got home, I hit the sack for a couple hours.

What a great derby!  The fog rollin in, the 70+ madyakkers racing for the reefs, at first I was kinda not into it with the lack of sleep, but then, red bull, and away I went.  I finally started hookin fish in the last 2 hours when I switched over to a 4" anchovie fish trap, my catches, 3 small blacks released, a 18" cabezon, a 16" greenling, and a 14" black&yella.  The greenling had 1" worms in the meat when I fillet'd it. :smt092  gnarly...

As for the winners, Duane, congrats, me and Chuck were talking about what a hardcore fisherman you are, and Allen, way to go and Dave, thats 2 derbys within a years time you've placed in.  It was nice to see 3 experienced yak fishers take the wins.  It was nice meetin some new faces and I look forward to fishing with some of you again.  Tin, congrats on winning all those goodies, you should trade one of them for some turbo fins for your hobie. :smt044

Thanks to all those who contributed and to Chuck & Bill for makin it happen.  Whens the next one???  We should try to have an impromptu halibut & striper derby before Elk????   jtf..

To Duane,Al and Dave way to go gentlemen. And everyones right Duane good things happen to good people. You three are the best of NCKA.
To the Hobie bait tank winner ENVY is the word for you brother. I was so looking forward to hooking that tank to my Revo.
Tin how the hell did you do that? You outfitted yourself just about in one day.
To the sponsors you folks rock and made a great day even better with your generousity.

Like everyone else I was totally burnt out by the end of the day. That fog was intense and keep me at the edge of my (kayak) seat all day. Wow did I sleep.

Wow what a ****ing great event! Thanks to Bill, Chuck, CPkayak, Danglin, others in helping plan, organize and execute this event. Congrat to Duane, Allen and Dave for the great catches. As for myself caught and release 3 short lings. Caught and kept two blacks for proof that I actually went fishing. For supplying eveyone with baits, it is most deserving that Duane win first place.

Lady luck was sure on my side during the raffle. I won tee shirt, a pole holder, a Bob Franko fishing rod  and a Macski Kingfisher kayak. I think I woulda got kill if I won one more prize.  :smt044 Well, I just hope I didn't used up all my luck. I going to need it for the Elk derby.

Btw JTF, I have turbo fins. I just never but should  put them on.

Hey congrats again Duane!

...I tell you this much I can’t wait till ELK my 40 friends are excited
To go to I will choose the biggest and the best for that one...

I'm afraid the registration for Elk is full to non-Mendo County residents.  Besides who picks their fishing partners based on size?

At least I'm assuming you're referring to fishing buddies, because I'm pretty sure transporting live finfish between bodies of water is against the regulations.  But then again what do I know, I'm just a suspected Mexican scallop poacher.

Bill, Chuck, Mooch and everyone that helped...Great Tourney!  Thanks a bunch to the sponsors and congrats to the winners.  Duane we all looked up to you as the  bait guy but now you're our HMB ling slayer.  Allen, Dave, Paul, you guys gave it a good shot (especially Allen's ling) but you certainly earned the respect from the rest of us.  Good to meet new folks and put some faces to the names.  Mooch thanks for the "chatter" on the radio, it gave us something to laugh about while we were all paddling around in the twilight zone.

Going out in the fog was weird and since I wanted to fish some spots where fish weren't already spooked, I went searching for some mystery structure that I never found.  What I did find was that I was out in the middle of no where and had PBs roaring pass me in the fog...not good.  In the distance I could hear the green can so I paddled towards it and ran into my fellow yakkers.  I never did find that monster ling but I did hook up with a few cabbies.  Kept one for dinner and figured that only a good sized ling was worth going for at this point.

Then the wind started kicking in...time to head for home.  No visuals of the harbor from the green can so we just headed for the fog horn.  Then the wind really started to pick up and every stroke took some effort.  If you guys are wondering why you were wasted well you probably put in 3 times the energy you normally use to get back to the beach.  Good thing I car pooled with Scott (GB2), he kept talking to me to keep me awake on the way home.

Tim, good going in scoring on the raffle...I hope you bought a lottery ticket on your way home before your lucky streak ends.
