Probably... because the taxman is known to bite them. 
After those two incidents off Davenport last year, I'm thinking I really don't need mine either.

Ummm...what "incidents"? I hadn't heard anything about sharks attacking drift socks. And when I search the internet, nothing comes up.
Anybody care to shed some light?

Multiple reports from coastside about curious w sharks munching drift chutes off davenport last year. 

I wasn't surprised when I heard about it.  Shark researchers have been successfully enticing whiteys to bite at a seal silhouettes trolled behind a boat.  The fact that my drift chute is black and the about the size of a seal pup doesn't make me feel good about using it from a yak.  If I was going to use it, I would add a section of 10lb mono as a breakaway line.

Mine is BRIGHT yellow and I used it last Friday at Anchor bay when the winds kicked up.
Didn't really do me too much good as i didn't get a single hit while I was using it.
I think it will work best just as the winds kick up, but if they are prolonged I am with Mooch when he says call it a day.
