This eve didn’t go as planned so I’m hoping to be there by noon.

I’ll be setting up camp then trying to get on the water for a bit to drop dad pots and catch a couple fish for dinner.

Drive safe everyone and please follow my directions so you don’t get lost. Trust me almost every time I have people come up they get lost for a bit.
If you have google maps it’s a good idea to load an offline map for the area.

Gonna hit the road in a couple hours, probably be there around 3 or 4, looking forward to this!

Thanks for calling this meeting, Rider!

Seriously Ken. :smt011

Follow the directions I posted and there won’t be a problem.
I’ve had friends follow googl maps and it turned them off mosquito ridge road before they should’ve turned.

I've been out there with no map at all and gotten on the wrong road going home. I was lucky to finally get enough cell signal to allow my phone to work. When you're lost, a map is a good thing. The point of offline maps is to have something in case you need it. If you're lost, better a crappy map than nothing at all.

Load the Gaia app and download the map for the area; designed to work offline; has all the trails mapped out..... use it all the time when back country....

On google map, use hell hole campground as your destination  and  continue driving until you reach the parking lot. I noticed this google map but make sure to double check.

Google map directions are not reliable in the back country. It doesn’t know the difference between a paved road and a Jeep trail. It would bring you over the French Meadows dam and then have you turn left and take a slow Jeep trail when the road sign says turn right and you stay on paved road all the way to Hell Hole. But it’s still better than nothing if you’re lost in the forest.

Good luck to all of you who are going. I really wanted to make this one but Simply Fishing was last weekend and work needs me on the weekends.
I hope there are many Trout and Kokes for all.
Looks like some really killer beers too :smt007

Me too. The fuel pump went out in my truck. I’m glad it didn’t happen up there.

Well the event was pretty cool. Fish were caught, new friends were made, and like all other events A LOT of food was prepared and consumed.

I’ll let others chime in on their experience but for such a remote location it was pretty awesome.

We ended up with about 40+/- people and raised a total of $1902 for Shicken.

Still trying to decide if I’m going to do Hell Hole next year or maybe pick another High Sierra lake to descend upon.

Thank you to everyone who showed up and participated I love our kayak angling acommunity. Also a huge shout out to everyone who donated for the raffle making it what I feel was a huge success.

Until next time,
Rider

I went to hell and had fun... Broke down, friends helped, ate and played with everyone, got cool stuff in raffle, never touched the water... Ready to roll wherever next year! Thanks James and Shawna for a great time!!! :smt006
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

Glad to hear as much $ was raised by as modestly sized a group as us!

Had a blast on this trip, thanks so much for putting it together!

Met some awesome new folks, reconnected with ones I'd previously met, got to paddle a new lake with a new set of idiosyncrasies, got skunked on everything but the raffle.

Would definitely do this again if it comes to pass!

I had a great time!!!
Many firsts for me having never met any of you before but felt as if I had been with the group for a long time. Thanks again James for organizing and while planning the whole event also raising good money for a great cause! Food was delicious and company was great!
Hell hole seemed to not just me as rookie a hard time fishing. But at least I did catch my first Kokanee.
Looking forward to more events and hope to see many of you on the waters.
