Anybody have a hand reel I can borrow?

I'll have 7 new Hand reels if you or anyone would like to purchase one; $20 each.

You just need to pick up some line (nothing less than 80lbs test, or you might get you hand cut spooling up a fish).

J and P Bait is selling live anchovies this weekend. I'm coming from Oakland to ARW. If anyone is going, could you pick up some live and I'll pay you for the entire half scoop if you give me a quarter scoop?

Heads up yall.  The resident outrigger paddling club (O Kalani) is also hosting a race at Encinal on Saturday 5/4; which could mean a lot of traffic, on and off the water.

We usually get there before they do, so we just need to grab the tables... also, they paddle on the inside, where its calmer; so we dont usually interact.

But i know some of the peeps from one of the clubs... so we're all good!!!

Spooling up my backup reels; can't wait to get back on the water!

Stopped by Davey's Bait at the Berkeley Marina for nada; no live bait yet.

2 of the pens were unused and the middle pen only had a few smelt circling; but no one was around to make a purchase...

Guess I'll be dragging popsicles around the pond tomorrow....

See you guys tomorrow!

You better go; I need live bait!!  :smt003

Hope to see you tomorrow!

Here is a map of the race course.

They had a similar course last year, but kept it inside the wall... hopefully, they'll do the same this year.

but more importantly, we need to claim our Chill Spot; last year the area was packed!

Please help reserve the table, by placing some stuff on the tables closes to the launch ramp...

Hot Bite UPDATE:

Got reliable Local Intel that the bite is in close to shore; party boats (and a commercial buddy) did really good today...

Great Day on the water, weather wise; cloud cover keep the hot sun off our backs for a good part of the day. Winds were light and keep the seas calm; however, water was extremely dirty in depths less than 30' and made trolling a very messy job.

The 'forth' wasn't with me at all! Ended the day with just a scratched j-smelt, which I jigged up early. The party boats didn't seem to do as well; the all scattered early. Put a lot of miles checking I my previous waypoints for that area; tough peddling for the first time back on the water. Alot of yak'rs on the water (including a bunch on non-NCKAers); with a few fish brought to shore. The bite seem to be better towards the northern part of the area.

Back on land, the food was great as usual, more than we all could stuff down on throats after a long hard day on the water. The Outrigger event didn't have any impact to our fun; in fact had a great time socializing with some of there members...

Tommy (Butete) took top on honors, with a 26.75" Hali; and true to Tommy's nature, he has graciously donated his winnings to Marv (Shicken).

Date for next year's Handline FnC is set for May 9th, 2020; AND if I cant' bring to shore a legal hali or striper on a handreel at this event, I'm sticking to just the "Chilling" at future Handline FnCs!

Thanks to all that came out! Had a great time Chilling with you all!

Thanks for the report. I was curious how it went. Maybe next year I’ll be able to join in the fun.

While I love Handling :smt007, I just hate  :smt013 the fact that I have yet to boat a legal Hali with one  :smt009
