I'm planning on pouring some lead jigs and want to put a clear coat on them. I'm thinking two part epoxy over powder paint and some reflective tape. My question is. Have you any experience with specific products you would recommend for this? I'm looking for a finish like the high end Japenese flutter jigs etc have. Something that can be also used over hand painted finishes too. I'm looking for a very durable and clear non yellowing finish. Suggestions?
Thanx

jonesz almost any epoxy works, some yellow in uv more than others. But you need to rotate them while they are drying like a rotisserie to keep the finish even. You can use 5 minute and hand hold, but it is really turns yellow fast.
Look up rod wrapping or lure making videos.

Maybe the fish prefer yellow...

But seriously, you might want to try Devcon Plastic Welder. I had a small repair job and used that. It came out glossier than the West System epoxy that I repaired, and it’s been getting sun for a year without any noticeable yellowing. It’s thick too, so should be easy to work with in your application (keep a heat gun or hair drier handy). It is pricey, but you’ll only need a little, so it might be worth it.
Are you pondering what I’m pondering?

And one suggestion. If you try to sand out any imperfections in the dried epoxy, you’ll lose that glossy finish and no amount of sanding/buffing will completely restore it. Prolly doesn’t make any difference under water, but it’ll look less impressive...

I’ve been reading a few forums and several suggested devcon 2 ton epoxy. You can buy it in 9oz kits that should be a good amount. A rotator is also in order.

I use envirotex for my lures which you can get from hobby lobby. One of the easier epoxies to work with compared to the BSI and Devcon I’ve used. I use a Weber rotisserie to “cook” them lol
