I just got my new (to me) yak - Wilderness Systems Radar 135 pedal drive and it comes with a boonedox landing gear but not installed.
At the back of the seat, i see two grey looking patch which i assume is someone's attempt at installing the boonedox? The boonedox did NOT come with the backing plates i see on youtube so i'm guessing someone couldn't figure out how to put the backing plate UNDER the yak, so they decided to epoxy(?) it on top hoping it will give it strength?

- Any guesses folks? Has anyone seen it done this way before?
- Should i mount the boonedox on this epoxy? is it strong enough? or i really need something UNDER the yak? The current grey stuff is not flush, surely i need to somehow grind it flush to install the boonedox?
- If under, i could order another set of backing plates mount it with 2 plates (above and below yak)? leaving the current epoxy one in place? overkill?
- Or should i somehow remove the current epoxy and recover the plate? would that damage the yak?
- Or should i just install the boonedox further back of the yak (e.g. after the cart) and leave this mess alone?

Any thoughts/suggestions welcomed!!! many thanks in advanced!

How should i make sure i have enough space for the boonedox and my cart? it seems a bit short with these big SAND wheels

@SlackedTide - thanks for suggestion. The installs i have found online for this yak did not use track - only Native Titans seem to have tracks in right spot. I assume no tracks but will take a look tomorrow.

I wouldn't track mount it on the radar unless manufacturer recommends it.  Native specifically strengthened underneath the track to allow the boonedox installation.  I do not believe most manufacturers build their tracks specifically accommodate the boonedox.  I think I saw you post up on FB about it so I think you got sufficient advice through there.

Thanks @bmb - per suggestion on FB Kayak Bass I'm going to sand down the epoxy to see what's down there. I will also see if I could get hold of the company/person who did this.  Assuming it's a plate under it (bad install) and not a repair, then i could try and remove the plate and re-do the install.  I'll keep folks updated as i figure this out.
