Adobo chicken and tofu for you!

The time of day that you eat also makes a big difference in burning calories. Such as if you eat a lot of carbs and then go to sleep right after, the body wants to store the energy.

As much time as you spend on the kayak, just figure out a way to get seasick. =P

"cutting down" on portions......this is where I fail cause I just LOVE good food
Actually portions are not really a problem when you eat the right foods. I lost weight while constantly being full eating 6 times a day!! Problem is when you eat foods that your body tells you to store and turn to fat instead of burning. That's the problem with anything that's a simple starch without fiber. Also do your utmost to cut out anything w/ High Fructose Corn Syrup. This stuff is a nightmare!! It tells your pancreas to stop producing insulin while you eat! Esentially all the food you consume while sucking on a soda will go straight to fat... one word SCARY!!

I only bring up the "losing weight' thing because I just bought this new bathroom scale that actually "tells" you your weight once you stand on it
If your scale can show it, concentrate on body fat percentage. Weight alone is a very foggy picture. I'm technically 20lbs. overweight for my height yet my bodyfat percentage is 17%. Muscle weighs a whole lot and the absence of excess fat is much more important. You could esentially bust your ass working out and eat right only to lose little weight. The reality is that you're losing a ton of fat but you're replacing it with dense muscle that weighs more.. that's progress!!

Never tell a Filipino to eat brown rice instead of white rice.  What are you thinking?!?

I got my wife eating 50/50 brown and white rice and she comes from the area of Japan that produces the best rice.

Dude.  When you cath a fish, cook and consume it rather than trade it in for spam musubi......problem solved.   :smt003

I agree with everything Zee posted.  Eat often, eat good, never get hungry. There's a book titled "the abs diet," simple fast reading, explains in plain english how your body develops/stores/burns energy.  Very worthwhile read.

Yeah but the Filipino Catholic Bible has an 11th commandment." Thou Shalt Not Eat Brown Rice"
But in all seriousness we are in the ideal sport for weight lost if we approach it in that fashion. It's however, not just about the diet or the exercise it's balancing the two and going for a goal wheather it be weight or proportion body mass. then the dilemma is keeping to these practices and not waining which is where I come up short.
So I guess it comes down more  to life style change. The word change in itself isn't all that bad it is in mostly my denial that I truly need to change.
I usually do this at least once every three years or so but don't you know that my first taste of indulgence sets me off track and here we go again. The other thing I do is make an excuse not to do what is the right choice vs. the wrong. The word denial comes into play here, It's not what I put in the Rice Cooker it's what I put into my mouth.
I got to go eat now see what you did!!!!

From a previous post of a get togeather this Sunday;Quote,"If someone brings a fryer, I can bring some lumpia" end quote. So I assume this new regament starts next week? :) Your friend Frank

Frank.....true, I never really stated when my "diet" officially begins  :smt003 Besides, the Lumpia is to "lure" the white boyz away from the fishing......seems to always work  :smt077

This will be my Elk Strategy as well  :smt045

I know about the filipino diet, I avoid attending too many of my in-laws parties because there's too much food and pork rind is considered one of the food groups.

My grandparents in-law are big and diabetic, and it's obvious why considering that every weekend is always someone's birthday, aniversary, death-aniversary, homecoming, going away, baptism, first communion, graduation, wedding or wake, and that always means 3 buffet tables overflowing with food from friday to sunday night, several cases of corona and about a carton of cigarettes.  If I lived there I'd have died of vice already!

My solution is to go fishing or have big projects to work on every weekend so I can't get hijacked for more than a few hours, otherwise I could get sucked in all weekend and spend it all with a beer, paper plate and wah wah wee.  Lately I've been putting in a garden and constructing a shed, which is a pretty good workout.

Zee, would that include artificial sweeteners like Splenda?

It never crossed my mind about using kayaking to lose weight, since I thought it was only about upper body activity.

I'm not sure about Splenda. I believe Splenda has it's own concoction of chemicals that makes it sweet.  High Fructose Corn Syrup is a simple cheap replacement for sugar that has about the same amount of calories and the above mentioned "side effect". I say keep it simple, if you want sweet, go with real sugar. There's a few sodas and drinks out there that use regular sugar like Izze, Jones, and Vitamin Water.

...got proof of this accusation  :smt102

On another note, I drink a lot of soda - at least 4 to 5 a day  :smt011 I've been cutting down and simply drinking lemon water. My neighbor has a lemon tree that grows lemons the size of a grape fruit  :smt118....I squeeze half a lemon into my nalgene bottle, pour some water and freeze. It's been a great alternative to soda  :smt045

Hey, Mooch,

P_S has a good idea. I just put in a patio paver walkway (shovel dirt, carry sand, lift 30 16"x16" patio pavers) by myself :smt120 and lost a few pounds. So, if you run out of projects, your Sugar Momma has a long list of "honey-dos" that I would be glad to share to help the cause! :smt047 :smt045 :smt044

Great shot J is that a 4x4?

I agree Mooch sodas are killer I just don't buy them anymore. Water and Juice are much more satisfying any way.
