You've already got 50 pounds loose!   :smt005.  J/K.

I'd like to join you.  Are they touring around/ sightseeing or does this group really put out?  And do you think they'd take kindly to a mirage drive in their midst?  Just wondering b/c there are some purists out there.

Thx for the headsup on what seems like a neat group.

Martin - some are there to train for Adventure Racing (most are beginners) and some are there to simply paddle around / excercise and meet people (me :smt002). No purists as far as I can tell for now. I still have not met the rest of the gang since the club just started just recently.

I might be the only guy giving you "da look :smt011" if you show up with your Hobie  :smt003 But seriously, this club is for everyone  :smt045

We paddled the main lagoon (Foster City) last night but I think we will start paddling from the San Mateo / Aquatic Center next week = lot's of parking, easy beach access, BBQ pits....and I've told that there are stripers and Halibut in this area. But let's keep that a "secret"  :smt002

Wish I was close enough to join in! In 2000 after all my foot surgeries and living in Truckee (snow and crutches don't mix) I bought the yellow sea sitin Ty paddles. I credit that purchase with saving my life. I was over 300 lbs and sucking wind @ that elev. I bought that yak and started doing laps around Donner. If you have ever seen my stroke you know why I lost 50 lbs so fast. Keep after it Joel, Elk is 70 Days from now!

Brother, you have it good  :smt045 I'll take Paddling and trolling at Donner ANY DAY!!!! :smt002

Yeah, I'm planning on killing the spider community that are currently living in around my mountain bike  :smt011 I mostly get the excercise when fishing / paddling on the weekends but that's not enough. What really kills me is that I have the typical Filipino diet -which itself can kill an average-non-Filipino in a few months :smt002 (death because of plugged arteries :smt011) Gotta get rid of the rice cooker....but...I....just....can't....seem...to....do...it... :smt010

Mooch,  try riding to work on your bike if at all feasible...I started doing that when I moved up to Sac.  Its only 4.5 miles each way, but I lost 10 lbs in the first month!  Combine that with once or twice weekly paddling and you'll be a chick magnet in no time  ;)

Thats my plan at least...I don't want to be a fat-daddy

Unfortunately, it's not....besides, El Camino (the rout I would have to take) is not the safest road to use. I've seen bike vs. car doors happen way too often  :smt011 But I do plan to ride my bike around the Crystal Springs bike path...and drool at all the fishing holes that I can't fish becuase "the law" says I can't  :smt013

If you like cycling for fitness, you should try a stationary trainer.  It's an awesome way to multi-task.  can let you borrow my spare cycleops fluid2.  just clamp on your MTB's rear wheel while in front of the TV and your golden.

A 30 minute show is a good start.  With ~ 8 mins of commercials per 1/2 hour, the commercial breaks of ~ 2 min provide great timing for interval training!

Now if only somebody could do a kayaking embodiment for the rowing ergometer.  They used to have a kayaking video game at the Dave and Buster's in Milpitas ...

Well Mooch, if you have a batch of lumpia or almondigas that you need to get rid of I'll take the white-boy challenge and take 'em off your hands.  Gotta help out my brudda NCKA'er, afterall.  Besides, my cholesterol meds let me eat ANYTHING!! (just don't tell my wife I said that)  :smt002

Gotta get rid of the rice cooker

As soon as I read your post, I thought you gotta lose the rice...  Seriously, just cut your portions (significantly) vs. going cold turkey...

that sucks that your route is a no-go...  I always watch the driver mirror when passing cars, if they don't see you, take the lane, if they do and look startled, ride by and if they see you and smirk, bail!

I always thought rice was good for you?  but as a white boy, I just dont eat much of it...
Right now, noshing on 6 hour pot roast, veggies (corn and soybeans) and a small bit of sweet potatoes...mmmmmmmmmmmm sooo good......

I think a trainer would be cool...but we got rid of our TV, partly to avoid additional brain rot, and partly in anticipation of the little one...although I will be playing DVD's on the computer  :)
besides, when there's nothing to watch on TV, I get to paddle or ride  :smt003

Rice is too good fo ya Mooch. Like Bigfoot said, go to brown rice. Either that or 50/50 with white rice. Fiber is good! I cranked up the fiber, cut most of the junk, got into working out and took off 40 lbs last summer. Actually put on a lot of muscle so the weight loss doesn't mean much. I've got a very helpful book w/ your name on it if you want.

Thanks for the tips and suggestions all  :smt001 The brown rice thing - and lot's of tofu was actually suggested to me by my Doc. who also happens to be a FAB (Fellow Asian Brother)...... :smt011....I lost all respect for the guy after this  :smt009...but I guess he was just trying to help :smt003

Hitting the gym was also suggested but I'm a "man of action"  :kungfu which means you'll never see me doing the stairmaster or stationary bike (the snob in me) coz I'd rather be "out there - doing the real thing"  :smt002

I think Kevin nailed it when he mentioned the "cutting down" on portions......this is where I fail cause I just LOVE good food (NCKA functions are also to blame :smt001) This will be the real challenge for me :smt011

I only bring up the "losing weight' thing because I just bought this new "talking" bathroom scale that actually "tells" you your weight once you stand on it....well....I stood on the damn thing and it told me this:  "One at a time please"  :smt013....needless to say, I got the hint  :smt011

Never tell a Filipino to eat brown rice instead of white rice.  What are you thinking?!? :smt102
