Was really considering heading out there as well, wind was nice and calm this morning but figured I save my chance for a slightly less steep tide day.

The big one that didn't stop sounds like a shark or bat ray to me but then again.....

Thanks for the reports All!

Same here. Had trouble with the weeds. One guy caught a 30" and 35" (Jeffrey?). He's having a good dinner tonight.
Had a great time for my first ARW outing...especially since it was the maiden voyage for my pilot 12.
Can't wait to go back out!

I was there and basically just caught weeds.  Did a hail mary and caught something big.  Had an explosive pull that sent my reel screaming.  Felt like pulling a truck.  Turn around and pedal towards its direction to catch up the line.  Saw my lead weight (10ft more to the hooks) when it decided to run again (took a turn towards bay bridge) and eventually lost almost half of my line.. About 25mins (give or take) later, cut through my line clean (30lbs fluoro).

Shark? Or super big ass halibut?

I heard someone caught a shark over the radio. Was that you?

me? maybe 8 or 9 shakers, a shark,  and a 20" striper to bring home.

that sounded like a bat ray.  they peel line and don't give back and just hug the bottom. them pesky things!

highlight has got to be geoff and ethan.  ill let him tell his story

The brown sea boogers were brutal. Made it hard to keep my bait clean.Didnt start catching till later in the day. Caught a shaker and a short 18”. Decided to hit the flagpole a couple times then landed me a 22” keeper for dinner.

Fished from 8:00 until 2:30.  Ended up with five shakers up to 20" and one striper, all caught between 11 and 1.  Had a few more misses and eventually ran out of anchovies, after which I switched to herring with no luck.  A guy on the wall caught a 30"+ halibut on jack smelt as I was coming in.  Baitfish were everywhere, maybe next time will bring a sabiki rig. Enjoyed the good weather and meeting a few NCKA members.

Always bring a sabiki or castnet.  90% of the time I go calibut fishing, I dont bring any bait cause live bait and baits bigger than a little chovie are my preferred choice to keep the shakers off.

Thanks for the reports All!

It is as Bob says (the fight) but the weird thing is I got a 20lb leader that is connected to my halibut rig which is a 30lb fluro and it was cut off clean on the terminal tackle.  Do they have sharpe teeth?  If not, then it should have been the 20lb leader that broker off, right?

Yeah with the minus tide the batrays and sharks are gonna be out prowling. It probably was a baytray. They are fun tho!
