I rented a house walking distance from the kayak launch pad at the harbour for 5 weeks
starting today.  might be mostly weekends, but we'll see...

yep, this morning I rolled my kayak to the launch pad without starting my vehicle...  :smt004
pure looooxury,  :smt007.

paddled out today and caught one 25" ling on a 5" swimbait in about 40 feet off the
lighthouse. it was not a hardcore mission, I took 3 swimbaits (3/8 oz, 1 oz and 2.5 oz)
and my perch fishing (10lb) spinning rig and got a fairly late start (9?).

there was light wind and fog later, but no real swell. I launched and fished in sun for the most part.

once I caught the ling (9:45?), I paddled in. it had a 10" blue rockfish in it's stomach,  :smt005,
or most of the fish, it was half digested with the tail still sticking out...

see mooch, there are fish in santa cruz, just leave the iron at home... lower the expectations a
little, fish the shallower water, and it's a great time..

oh yeah, pictures. well, I remembered the camera, but not the cable that transfers the pics...
maybe I will update this post later.

That's some fine fishin'.  I think there are more fish around this year.  We'll have to get out together.  I'm going out early tomorrow (Sunday) from SC for salmon.  Papa Do Run Run (Beach Boys good cover band) is at the Boardwalk beach tonite at 6, extreme high divers and sky divers all afternoon - 100th anniverary.

Thanks Allen, Yep, I saw that, and another c'sider caught one between the Lthse and mile bouy in  70 fow 40 otw.  I'm a sucker for such reports.   Bet I'll get a 'but now that I'm geared for salmon!

Tom, I think my friend and I, the dumbest smart guy I know (a real rocket scientist...
and a surfer...  :smt044), will rockfish off the steamer lane lighthouse for a bit tomorrow
morning...  I'll put on channel 69. knowing him, we'll get out there pretty late, assuming
we aren't surfing (I think the sunday swell is windswell, crappy for everything)

hope you get a 'but or salmon! I'd take a 'but as consolation for salmon anyday. personally I think
you'll get a ling or two if you troll a little on the deep side.

Blue. it's a sweet setup I have to say. I'd take a picture of the garage, with two kayaks inside ready
to go, but I don't want you running out in front of any busses,  :smt009.

I might try for salmon from here before I'm done, or do that 4-mile to the harbour trip I wanted to do last year.
But I really need to kill some fish before I start tilting at windmills. today was a good start,  :smt002.

A walk to the launch?  Pretty sick, John.  Glad to see you got your deck bloody with that ling.

With a 3 day weekend coming up, I'm thinking salmon at least one of the days...

John - don't worry about your company for 5 weeks. how do you manage to get away with that? Or just some sort of weekends deal? Glad to know the flat, Enjoy your time. I need to get out badly and can't wait for the long weekend ahead.
