I almost forgot.....It was about noon and I was just floating around not fishing (I had to pee real bad and couldn't bring myself to go in my wetsuit, as I wasn't diving). I had my eyes closed and was trying to catch a couple Z's when I heard what I thought was a blow hole hear the beach. Suddenly I heard a loud blow and I turned to see a humpback whale about 40 yards from me. I called to the rest of the guys and then there was another one or two about 100 yards away from them. They whales surfaced about 8 or 10 more times before they were gone. It was cool!

And yes, I let go and had pee going all over the inside of my suit. While I was paddling back to shore, I felt it way up my back. YUCK! I need to get a suit with a zipper near the crotch.

CHEERS!

The migraine progressed into a brief stint of  :puke: :puke: :puke: followed by heavy drugs and a LONG nap.  I really hate migraines...what a buzz kill after such a great day.

I awoke as good as new and processed my fish this morning.  Leah, my ever supportive companion packed them lots of ice and they were in beautiful shape this AM...but I about froze my hands off filleting them!

Paige was delighted to hear about our whale encounters, what a special treat to round out the day.

Sorry to hear about your migraine, Sean.  If I seemed quiet after getting out of the water yesterday it was because I too was hurting - in a light-headed daze after making the bad decision to jump right up out of my boat after 7 straight hours on my ass and haul my loaded yak up a 25 yard sand hill closer to the truck.  Please, guys, someone trip me and put a mean finger in my face the next time I try to act like I'm still 20-something.  Yes, I am considering that the 3.5 hours sleep and 8 beers probably had something to do with it...   :smt009  Don't try tripping me with the mean finger after the 8 beers and before bed!   :smt001

What a good time.  Thanks for coming up, all.

PIC:  My joke about planting bananas on-board others' yaks may be an irony.  The potasium in those and the 2/3 quart of "Superfood" that I consumed for breakfast, combined with the fact that I didn't drink any water out there, may have been a bad mix...  F***ing banana curse!   :smt013

I was almost dozing off on my yak when we had the whale encounter. Then I heard a big blow real close behind me!I spun around to see a 400-500lb. furbag closing fast eyeballing my luscious stringer hanging off my yak. :smt013After quickly pulling my stringer into my yak I slapped my paddle and yelled until he left. :smt005 :smt103
I was using a big scampi, but most fish were caught on the Papa Bill Special swimbait.Tipping it with some squid worked the bottom dwellers to a frenzy.I caught around 8 legal lings kept 1 and was waiting for lingzilla.Had some awesome pull downs that felt like snags until they swam free. All the beautiful Greenling, and China's were set free,as well as all the Blacks.I also c+r'd a Cabezon which I should have kept.

Nice going guys! Lots of great fish. Those wolf eels are some kind of ugly. Ive read they mate for life and take turns guarding the nest so when one is killed the other one, and any little ugly babies in the nest are skrewed, so hats off to 'ya on the release. As far as the other carnage, Im jeolous!

Here I am living life vicariously through you guys ( except Mahi pee in the wet suit story which I almost did from cracking up). Nice going guys looks like another glorious trip in the northern country. But seriously Mahi go get a zipper for crying out loud, way to much information.:}

Does the word resentment mean anything to you guys. Congrats on all counts and getting through the migraine Sean! Got to love the support in our lives and feel for those who don't have that type of companionship.

It was fun to revisit a place I've been about 5 times before when I was a student at HSU.  I have never seen it so calm out there before.  Fishing for lings was downright outstanding, in fact I think I landed four or five in a row and then got sawed off by a real good size ling.  All in all kept 2 chinas, 2 blacks, 3 vermillions, a cab and two 30 inch plus lings. Released about 15-20 lings total with about half of them legal.  Humpback whales were a pretty awesome sight as well.  Just had a great time and can't wait to do it again.  Great meeting Abking and Dave as well.

My pictures' file size are too big I guess to post, anyone know how to resize????

Beautiful images, guys........the ling fishing of all of our dreams.

Fishim, is that a copper?  Way bigger than any I've caught.

Those conditions looked perfect for an epic day of rockfish carnage.  And those lings... absolutely beautiful!

I can only imagine the fun you all had.  WTG.. guys!

Newsflash.... ChuckE inevitably drops like a rock to 3rd place behind Scwafish and Fishshim.  Congrats! :smt012

What an awsome day guys! It's so nice to see the Lings are showing in such good force. Sounds like it could not get much better except for the headbanging(sorry Sean) I think when the last kid leaves the nest I will be looking for a campground host job in the area. 2 years and counting. Thanks for sharing.

I already started to hoard wood to sell for that exact reason.
