Does anybody have a Shimano Tranx reel?  I'm thinking of buying one for rock fishing and possibly salmon but wanted to get a users opinion before I spend the money.  I generally use a Shimano Curado and have been happy with its  performance but I'm looking to upgrade to something a little better.

Thanks,

Martin

I bought a 500 for throwing wahoo bombs, but I haven't really had a chance to use it yet.

A lotta people swear by 'em.

I do not but a friend of mine swears it's the best reel..ever for lings and rockfish. He has a lot of shimanos and is a very seasoned fisherman. For me, aesthetically I like to think I am fishing for 1000lb tuna every time I fish in the ocean so using something that looks similar to my bass gear isn't going to work regardless of it's capability. For the money I'd probably go with a Trinidad (16 or 20) but that's just me. The extra line capacity of a trinidad would allow for more applications, however if you're solely using it for rockfish then I think you'd be really happy over a curado.

Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.
