I've got some friends that traded Columbus, OH for Tampa and never looked back. Dock off the back yard into the gulf, pretty kick ass.

I've only been to FL a few times but my take away from my small sample set was that the further south in the state you go, the more North you are culturally and vice versa.

My other takeaway was that the keys are kinda awesome, but I'm never moving anywhere that has a natural disaster season. I can handle the randomness of earthquakes, but hurricanes/ tornadoes? nah.

I only lived there for 1.5 years, but let me offer further insight. The more instate you go, the more "southern" it becomes. The Tampa and Miami areas are incredibly diverse and progressive.

Thanks for telling me my home for 39 years is such a terrible place:  I’ll miss you.  That was irony... I won’t really miss you.

You’re welcome.

That was sarcasm.

You’re not welcome.

Welcome to California. Where someone will take offense over literally anything. Including saying the home you grew up in no longer suits your taste.

Wah wah wah. :’( Peace.  :smt044

Well sometimes the culture is free entertainment. But after some years it gets old? :smt003

Even the outdoors stuff is starting to feel over rated. Almost all hunting opportunities are at the cost of an expensive club for the old and rich that can’t even do what I consider hunting.

Tell me why it was so hard to get them to remove the limits on sea urchins that are destroying the ocean? Why do you still need to pay for a license to help reverse the devastation?

Why does it cost an arm and a leg to hunt an invasive species like pig that are supposedly causing devastation? Back in the old days the government might pay YOU a small bounty for helping keeping invasives in check.

Gotta line the pockets.

This wasn’t created to be a California bashing thread.

California sucks ass... it's getting very expensive to live here.
Hunting and fishing is getting tougher every year due to restrictions.

I won't blame you moving somewhere else. I'd love to do the same thing once opportunity presents.

Wilderness,

Florida is a beautiful state that I shouldn't have left. If you decide to move to the Tampa area, hit me up! I dominated the flats and caught tons of reds and snook. Seriously though, the fishing is incredible!

 :smt005

Yep.

Last three years of high school in a boarding school in Pompano beach/Fort Lauderdale...getting into all kinds of stupid trouble...

Wanted to get as far away as I could before I ended up dead or in jail...so came to Santa Cruz in 1994...where of course there is no stupid trouble to get into...

 :smt002 :smt012 :smt005 :smt044

My brother and his wife and kids are still there in Melbourne/Satellite beach area....I don't go visit cuz have no desire to go there really...would rather go see rest of family in New Orleans and have them meet me there.

Sincerely,

Jim

The tale of Big Jim.

It must have been some serious trouble to not want to ever visit with that big ocean full of fish calling. :smt010

I’m pumped on our trip there in April. The wild blue expo and getting to check out some of the stuff you have all described... should be fun!

Wow good luck! LOTS of fishing there and good good people.  And idiots, too but they are everywhere.

I fished it only once, in summer, by Cape Canaveral.  We went offshore for Red Snapper  REAL red snapper and they fight HARD!  While out we saw some Kingfish king mackereel, big attack subs, traveling in pairs.  Scary.  Also tons of inshore fishing according to the season.

Plus, Atlantic side you can surf if you want to.
