I was sure "Epic" was not referring the the 5 page two month long Hookup thread.  Although only four of us NCKA brothers showed up, we made sure that it lived up to its name.  Ben, sorry you could not make it, you started us out and we finished it off.  I will write this in parts since I do not have lots of time to spend writing and to let others add their stories.

After leaving just before 5, I stopped for gas and was on the road shortly there after.  As I drove south and it became light there were huge white caps to the north of Point Sur.  After passing Big Sur, and reemerging on the coast, it looked better.  I arrived at Lime Kiln just before 6:30, unloaded my gear at the gate, drove to parking on the highway, changed into my wet suit and returned to the gate to rig up.  As I carted the yak down the hill I saw two kayakers on the beach.  Using the radio I called JTF and he reported that he was 1-1.5 miles west of Lucia and the guys on the beach were Kayak James and Great2Bass.  When I got there James was launched and G2B was getting ready to go.  The waves were variable with the occasional waist high beach dump breaker (one of the easiest launches I have ever had at this place).  James may have a different opinion (I will let him tell since I was not there when he launched).
"
G2B and I met James just outside the cove and since JTF was no where in sight.  We paddeled to my shallow and close "Cabazon rock" and I promptly pulled up two small rockfish and a nice 19-inch Cab keeper.   After a few minutes fishing there, I had my Cab so we went in search of JTF.  He was reporting Vermillions and Lings about 1 mile west of us.  We paddled toward where he described he was over the radio.  The wind was light off shore and from the south pushing us where we wanted to go.  The fog was on the tops of the hills and on the water with a tear of blue sky between.  The sun broke out as we where paddling to join JTF.

I need to unload some gear, desalt it and get some fish cleaned and then clean my self.  More later with pics.

The anticipation is killing me  :smt001  Don't know what the final results are yet (waiting for the next chapter of this story) but I'm glad it's worthy of including the word "epic".

Sorry guys, I have no pics, greatbass(scott) took one of my carnage and hope to see it on here soon.

It was epic out there.  I started droppin bombs around 700am in 120' of water, bills swimbait he special made for me last year was my killer of choice, a real instrument of death!!!  20lb braid with a 25lb fluoro leader to a 3,4 or 6oz jig, was getting me down past the blacks and johnnybass circus.

There was just enough breeze to out there to keep us from sweatin catchin all those tasty cod.  The swells were between 4 to 5' with little or no wind waves.

My limit for the day, 10 Reds and 1 33" Ling.  Bill, we need to talk about some plastics soon, seriously, 7 outta 10 of those verm's were on your plastics.   :smt023  JTF..

ps. scott, I'm praying you got that girl at the beach in the pic, maybe even her kneecap :smt003

Fished MBK on friday and hooked with Brian after talking to Aron from MBK. MBK was a wasteland with only 3 sanddabs at the red buoy and 2 underlings and 2 dink coppers at the yellow can all CNR. Headed down to LK and ended up camping at Kirk Creek. Checked out Mill Creek which was calm as was LK. Ran into Kayak James and we decided to launch out of LK. Had trouble with the the gate at LK and showed up at 625AM as JTF was launching and James was about to. James thanks for keeping an eye on my yak. As I was about to launch I ran into Etienne who gave me some tips on launching which really helped. He took us inshore north of LK where he hooked a nice cabby and I hooked a blue. We then headed offshore to hook up with JTF who put us on a reef in 120 FOW about 2 miles NW of LK. It was EPIC non stop action and I limited out at 1030 with 10 quality rockfish (vermillion, blue, olive, cabezon, copper) and 2 lings (26 and 29 inches) all caught on a teaser rig with a hoochie and either big plastics or a 8 oz hex bar with whole squid trailer.  :smt003 Was putting my equipment away when JTF came by to chat and while talking got hit by a rogue swell and went for a swim  :smt013. Lost one of my favorite rods I built from a st croix blank, tekota reel and 8 handmade jigs  :smt013 :smt013 :smt013. John thanks for helping me retrive my stuff. Headed in with Etienne and wiped out  in a 1 foot wave  :smt013 but no equipment loss this time. All in all, inspite of the losses, one of the greatest fishing days ever with great fishing, scenery and company. It was truly EPIC!!!  :smt007 Pics to follow...

Wow JTF. It really can't get any better than that. Amazing day for sure.

Just finished putting some accessories on my new kayak. I'd be down to go there next week if someone else is interested as well.

Nice clear pics. Looks like a great day.
Sorry to hear about you losing your gear. It was a mixed swell day so that would explain the rogue swell.

JTF - selective vermillion harvest or genocide. Thanks for putting us on the reef. It was the bomb.

Although a lot of folks think the blue rockfish is a nuisance species designed to prevent your lure from getting to the bottom where the big boys are, I always keep a few because steamed whole Chinese style with celantro and jalapenos they are unrivaled compared to the other rockfish. My family actually prefers them over the vermillion in this preparation. Cioppino for mothers day dinner. Muy bueno.
