Nice one, Alex.

I hit the surf last week for nada. Conditions looked decent, but there was a crap load of eel grass in the water. Not huge clumps, but just enough to have a small piece of it pretty much ruin 85% of my casts.

I started kayak fishing to get away from most of you...

Man, don't ya hate that. You throw a perfect cast into a lull in between sets and you feel the Rod dip down and you know your cast is wasted.  :smt013  :smt044 . Only fished redtail way back when at the Klamath. Hate to say when. You may not have been born.  :smt044

Nice catch!

I went out last week too and was able to get a few fatties. Don't usually do much surf perch fishing and usually C&L what i do catch, but think i have new found love for surf perch. The're abundant all over and easy-ish to catch, super firm meat that's perfect for civeche (had no idea), easy to fillet, and damn tasty! Think i'll start loading up the freezer from now on whenever i get the chance.

Rip there gills immediately to bleed them to help preserve. I also take a zip lock bag with ice.

Sounds good to me. I've got a typical 7-5 type of work day so i'm usually out there on the weekends. Shoot me a PM next time you head out.

Nothing fancy on the ceviche recipe, but i saw on another post about perch someone saying they make great ceviche and turns out they're absolutely right. Here's the link to the recipe:
