Hey, that's me with the ling in the next picture! That was last October, first time I went kayak fishing. Caught a big verm that day too. I haven't caught a ling that big since, but I have learned to dress for immersion.

So that dude is “guiding” people on the Sonoma Coast without telling them they need a wetsuit/drysuit?

Nah, he recommended a wetsuit but it was a hot day so I ignored his suggestion.

Its just too bad of an advertisement. Wrong fish (though its release) someone not wearing dress for immersion.

I had a wetsuit on..
Dennis Spike is not that bad of a dude.
I think he should practice what he preaches tho. Lol
He didnt have a wetsuit on, he had on waders!! Hah
He didnt have a life-jacket on but it was accessible on the kayak somewhere.
Once he knew we knew we were seasoned fisherman just wanting to know the kayak way of doing things it wasn’t much of a guide.
I dont regret it though. Would I do it all over again? Probably not..

Yeah, I didn't think so either. At the same time, it didn't surprise me to discover that he is a, um, "controversial" figure.

Pretty much. It was my brother-in-law's idea and I was just tagging along for the ride. But I got introduced to kayak fishing and Ocean Cove, had a great day on the water, and caught some nice fish, so I have no complaints. It would have been nice if I had known someone who could have taken me out and showed me around, but I didn't, so...

When I was starting out last year I booked a combo crab and fishing trip with Dennis. He was a cool guy but only took me for crab even though I paid a total of almost $300 for both. He said he would take me for fish in a week. He never returned my emails and never delivered on the fishing Long after he took my $$$
