My folks will be in from MO and would like someplace to Yak fish.  Being new to Sac myself, I was wondering if Mendo would be too crowded that weekend?  If so, any suggestions?

thanks
Jim

Blue Lakes:

3 miles of shoreline, upper Blue lake is stocked with 12" trout twice a month in the spring. Protected from the wind...excellent destination for parents and kids.

From the town of Ukiah, off of U.S. Highway 101, head north six miles.  Exit onto Highway 20 and drive east for about thirteen-and-a-half miles until you reach Blue Lakes Road.  Turn right on Blue Lakes Road to reach the campgrounds and boat launches.  NOTE:  Motor homes and vehicles pulling trailers should continue further on Highway 20 to Mid Lake Road and then turn right to reach the campgrounds and boat launches.  The Blue Lakes access road is an extremely narrow, rough road unsuitable for large vehicles or vehicles pulling trailers.

crowded IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT!  usually all the knuckle heads in wake board PB's are in full A.H. mode.  If you get out in the early am you shold be good.

The lake speed limit is 5 m.p.h. so the only powerboats on the water are small aluminum fishing boats, (which you can rent.)

There is a fee to launch at:

Le Trianon Rsort: 707 275-2262
Narrow Lodge:     707 275-2718
Pine Acres Resort; 707 275-2811

I'd give them a call to see what the situation is over Memorial Weekend.  They have kayak rentals at the lake also.

You mentioned that you were right off of Howe, correct? If so, then I'd head up 50 to one of the lakes off of Ice House road, with my nod going to Loon Lake. Another possibility would be Echo lake, right at the summit.

Regards,
Scott

I thought about Echo, but have seen the # of cars in the lot, I was worried that it may also be a mad house...
Loon though, I'll check that one out.  My mother is a fishaholic like few others and I just need to get her into some fish  :)  preferably as big as possible  :smt002
