I recently installed two YakAttack GTT75 gear tracs with their fullback backing plates to the deck of my Kraken 13.5 so I can very securely mount my Scotty Depth King downrigger with 6" swiveling pedestal.

I mounted the swiveling pedestal to some 1/2" Star Board from the seconds bin @ Tap Plastics. I secure the board & pedestal to the gear trac with 4 mighty bolts, 2 on each side.

When seated, my right leg clears the downrigger boom. I'm able to rotate the boom so that the downrigger cable (150# braid) & pulley end is only about an inch from the kayak.
With this mounting style, I can also place the boom & ball in a stored position until I actually need it out over the side of the yak.

And to answer the question: yes, it's a big downrigger. I like the fact that I get 2' of line up per handle crank. When I'm 90' down with a 6# ball fishing for kokanee or kings, it makes a huge difference. I ised to use a Scotty Laketroller & it was a nightmare pulling up more than 50' of cable. The Depth King has the same boom length as the Depth Master (only 1' of line up per handle crank).

I paddle like it's not even there. I do rotate it closer to the side of the kayak than what's shown in the third photo - the cable ends up being like an inch & a half away from the side of the kayak. I also use Scotty adjustable extension arms with my Stealth rod holders to get my rods up and away from the path of my paddle. I'll even run a second rod on a shuttle hawk. I make adjustments as needed to keep things free & clear.

I'll have to take some video the next time I use it.
