I have a question for the membership regarding drifting dead bait for halibut(herring, anchovies and jack smelt)......I use a trap rig with a sliding 3/0 hook above a #4 treble on the bottom.  I have a 2-3 foot leader attached to a snap swivel at the end of my main line and run about 2 oz torpedo sinker on the same swivel ......what do you guys use in regards to size of hook and how you rig it?  Thanks.

For halibut I use a 4' leader with a slider. Weight attached to the slider.
For salmon I use a 4' leader with a banana weight attached inline.
This is how I tie the hooks for both rigs

In regards to bait-I was fishing Tomales with a few fellow NCKA anglers yesterday for flatties. I am convinced live/dead bait does not matter! I will post the full report later, but more fish were caught on dead "tray quality" over live... cowenceadence sp???

I use the standard hali rig like what you buy. But I tie my own using a number 2 octopus (slider-nail knoted) above a number 4 treble. This is tied on a 3way swivel and a dropper on the other eye for the weight. The last eye goes on the clip of my main line. Make my own for less than $1.00.
