For the three days prior to the Elk tourny (tue, wed & thurs), Alan and I will be at Limekiln State Park practicing our ling techniques. If anyone wants to camp for free and yakfish, we can have 1 more vehicle and up to 6 more people at our site. If anyone wants to come down for a daytrip, we will feed you lunch and will have squid for bait.  We thought we would take advantage of the long drive from Utah and get some Central Coast action on the Elk trip. We killed the fish there last year. Everyone is welcome. I will bump this up as it gets closer to august. Thanks

Scott,

Cool. We plan to paddle north toward Lucia. Should be a lot of fun and lots of big fish. The more anglers the better on trips like these.

Ed

Sudmucker,

Limekiln is south of Big Sur.

Ed,

I have never fished Limekiln, but I am not going to Elk this year - I believe we met @ Elk last year?  I was the dude without the flashlight and running into everything.  Anyhoo I have always wanted to fish at LK and might be able to make it down for a day-trip.    Would be cool to fish with Scott and finally meet Etienne, if we don't hook up at Bean before then.

I may be in - will know closer to the date and with weather forecast.  (It's kind of a long drive from Oakland for a day trip, so I'd wanna feel good about the weather thing.)

Craig

Hi Craig. Yeah, I remember you. You had good luck in the drawing if I remember right. It would be great to have you come down. If the weather is too much, we plan on launching at Mill Creek. Should be a good time. I am really looking forward to it. Let me know. The more the merrier. I will probably be doing the Central Coast again in september. I think I'll stay at Plaskett Creek then. Hope to see you at Limekiln. Later

Hello,
I'm new to the site, but have fished with Allen B. and Frank. I would like to join up with you all down there and would be coming in from Santa Cruz for the day. I would be interested to get more information on the parking situation once your site is full. Thanks solsrf1/mike

Mike -

There is day use parking for $6 at Limekiln or you can park on the highway for free and wheel your yack down the big hill about 100 yards. The gate is locked until 8AM but you can open the gate (combo 1111 I believe) as early as 6AM. Etienne parked on the highway last time but with 30-40lbs of fish in his yak, I am not sure how he pulled it up the hill. It kicked my butt just wheeling my yak and fish from the beach back to the day use area, but he is a younger man than I. At Mill creek the parking is free and a 20 yard carry down a ravine and small beach to the launch site. On 8/1 I will arrive at 6AM and park in the day use area. Hopefully launch by 630. It can be a mean shorebreak so dress to swim and rig to flip. See you there :smt006

Hey Scott,
Thanks for the helpful information. I have a Wheeleez kart so I'm covered on the walk, and with the big-game it's sure to be some work hauling that thing up any hill  :smt003. Now about that shorebreak, I've surfed my whole life and been on or in the water kayaking and sailing the whole time. I have entertained the thought of dumping the BG and it's not a pretty picture. I have to figure out some sort of pull strap that will make that pig easier to right if capsized-especially in surf-any suggestions? Can you give me a more in depth description of the Limekiln launch or where to research it- I may take a short drive and recon it beforehand. Just looking for a better idea of what to expect with the shorebreak; steep beach, rocks, etc? Thanks Mike

Tarpon120. I look forward to it. It has been my experience that with a big group it is much more fun and safe.

Mike,

The beach at Limekiln is a steep shorebreak and is a fine gravel rather than sand. When it's high, the surf piles up right on the beach and collapses all at once. There are some rocks, but it's a fairly safe launch under most conditions. I like the shore break there because you only have to worry about the one bad set and it's easy to time if you watch for a minute. Quick out and quick in, even when it's high. If it's too bad we will launch at Mill Creek. You don't have to worry about the launch at all. It looks worse than it is.

I wanted to put this up one more time. We have a few people interested. Everyone is welcome. This is only two weeks out now. The bait and lunch offer still stands. I do have a person interested in the camp spot. This will be a fun rockfish and ling trip. Allen and I (weather permitting) will launch and fish tuesday, wednesday and thursday, July 31, August 1 and 2. All are welcome any of those days. The more the merrier at Lime Kiln. We will leave very early on friday morning so we can prefish at Elk that afternoon. Anybody who ever wanted to try the Central Coast, this is going to be a good, fun group. Again, everyone is welcome. Please respond to this post or pm me. Thanks
