Point Pinos Salmon Success 4/14!!!

On Friday, I took delivery of a Tarpon 160 and was very anxious to get out on the water.

So Saturday, dark o'clock, loaded up the van and headed out.  I made excellent time getting out to the salmon grounds.  MUCH faster than the Prowler 15!!!

The action was little quiet at first, but after about a half hr, the action turned steady and limits were reached by 10 am.  It was a good thing, because it started to rain cats and dogs.

Fish quality was incredible for this time of the year.  Big fish went 37 lbs on the scale and measured 41.5".  It's been so long since I've had salmon.  I'm happy as a clam.  Pics to follow.

Fish were caught on the troll, 2lb ball, straight FBR at 85 pulls in 300+ ft of water. 



And here is the FATTY!!!!  And the fish was nice too.  41.5" and 37lbs on the scale.  Woohooo!!!

Man that's a nice fish 'Big Boy'.  Save me some, and I'm talking about the good stuff...none of those filets. 

Holy mother of cow cod.....those fish are bruisers for this time of the year, for any time of the year. I bet we see some 50's caught this year.

Those are beautiful.  I might catch the salmon flue later this week when the conditions improve.  Is anyone else feeling something coming on?

Beautiful fish.  Cool shot of you with the gilled and gutted limits - and that 41.5"er is a stinkin' slob - Way to go!

WTG, fantastic fish!  Congratulations on the limits.  It'll be a tough act to follow for the rest of the season.  You should have taken the two biggest and laid them on your kayak for a photo and you really would have had us going!

Would you have been comfortable enough in a yak yesterday out where you got those?
 
What would you have been willing to throw overboard to lighten yak in order to get that hog back to Coral St?

I read your first post, then headed out for an 8 mile hike with the dog.  The whole friggin' 8 miles I'm obsessing...

  "Damn, should have gone for the big water instead of Del Valle..."

  "No, you made the call, there'll be other times..."

  "I need a faster kayak, that T160..."

  "You paddle fast enough in the Prowler..."

  "Yeah, but even Mooch is able to keep up with me now..."

  "The Prowler can get you where you need to go..."

  "Gotta watch the conditions and try to get out soon, even take a day off..."

  "You gotta get some help for this obsession..."

On and on for 2 and a half hours.  Glad I read the boards before I placed the T160 order.

Fuzz & Stu - nice fish. 41" is alarmingly big. Did you ever think it was seal or something else at the other end of the line? WTG!
