That was a GODDAMM shitty thing to do!!! How fucked up are some people who might even could been living in our own neighborhoods.! Stealing a personal fishing kayak is like kicking a guys in the balls and not giving a shit how it feels!! Now that is really is fucked up!!!

Stealing fishing gear is probably worse!   [emoji23]  especialy a kayak like that one!

glad this had a happy ending.  not too happy for the thief, but he deserves whatever is coming.

probably not from the guy who stole it, as he's a local troublemaker known to the law, but some folks are talking about taking up a collection.

What a mess and an amazing ending.  That was a quick turnaround.  I cartop and have a thick cable lock but now I question, are you still gonna cartop your kayak?  Like you said, if they want it they'll get it.  Seems rare and ambitious for some thieves.  What a solid group of help that solved this.  I am glad for you.

If you buy a Kraken for $400 from a crackhead, you could/should probably be arrested for receiving stolen property.

All's well that ends well! Nice work from the community making this happen for Will.

He truly could be charged with receiving stolen property but most likely the thief just made up some stupid story for the sale and most likely not worth pursuing the charge.  At least that's what the DA's office would say for a property crime.  A little different for habitual offenders but even so it's still only a property crime.  Some areas can prosecute for property crimes but bigger cities just don't have room in the jails for non violent crimes.

If you knowingly or should have known something could have been stolen you are out the money.  If the thief gets caught with the cash it could be given back or collected as evidence to be given back after a court case was closed.  He can also seek recovery of the money through the court if a case was made and it goes that far.  Good luck getting the money back that way but it is possible.

Way easier to just ask for an original receipt.  Get the serial number and call the local police to see if it was reported stolen or just do a little more home work before buying products from unknown shady bastards.  Even with looking into something more you could end up buying something stolen but at least the change of having a case made against you goes way down.

Also glad it was given back to the owner so quickly.  Nice work everyone.

I scratch my CA Drivers Lic # inside the hull of my yaks.  That's irrefutable evidence in case of theft.
