Dumb question but I don't know much about halibut fishing. I assume you aren't free spooling when you feel it get bit? (with all the dredge on there) Are they just hooking themselves by aggressively going after that trailer bait?

Also, nice work!

Yep, that's the beauty of it. It seems to trigger a very aggressive bite. And because you're trolling the hookset is pretty much done when you grab the rod out of the holder.

No, I have only had it for a month or so. Fished it twice for halibut and caught both times. I'm 100% sure it will work for stripers, salmon and albacore. i Just haven't had the chance to do it yet.
