To be clear, the lake will be low by July...super low as in almost gone by September/October.  We are going to ask for minimum flow release changes from the state to preserve some water for returning Chinook.

I am not looking to schedule a new/different event.  The shark derby is only two weeks before this one anyways, so there is plenty to do.

Hopefully it rains and we can be back on track, but as of right now it ain't looking good.  I LOVE this event, no one is more bummed than me.

That is sad news but as we all know, mother nature bats last.  At this point lets just hope that the ongoing reprocussions relted to fish kills, low flows, salmon runs etc. are minimum and that the system can recover quickly.  It is hard to sit by and watch such a great resource suffer like that.  I hope the grape growers are happy.  :smt013

Ag is gonna take a hit too.  The current situation is bad enough that all resources and users are gonna feel it.  As much as I love those stripers, they are non-native and planted there soley for recreation...we can buy more.

I am most concerned about the fall Chinook, but if we have the same success as 2002 they should do OK too...but its gonna be a stressful fall!

Thanks for the info Sean.  Let me know when it the water level is low enough to start causing some density-dependent effects on the striped bass population.   I'm guessing they'll bite just about anything at that point.

In some ways it's ironic that we won't have Bendo@Mendo III to raise money for future restocking.  I guess we should all  make more of an effort to attend the CSBA tourney in the spring.  Any chance we can orgainize some group camping during that event?

Bummor about Mendo. I've been working way too much and was looking forward to a little fishing at some point.

Just read that Sierra snowpack water content is one-third normal. Bay Area water resources officials are about to declare a drought and require over 2 million water users to cut use by 10% starting in June or face rationing.
Yikes. This could be a year of nasty fights between enviro + fish folks and ranchers + growers.
I hope the Salmon make do well. the Delta has got to have issues as well.

Drove past San Luis a couple of weeks ago--it was pretty low for this time of year, but not alarmingly so. But that can change. The storm today and the next on Saturday should help though they have a lot to make up and fast.

haven't been fishing since November, but its nice to read the reports so I don't fell completely out of it.
