Some explanation of my design...

I wanted to try and design a simpler logo.  Something that sets us apart from other kayak fishing sites (i.e. not another image of an angler on his kayak) and something that said "NOR CAL".

In case you haven't noticed, "NORCAL" is already to some extent a brand...it consists of some gothic font and a black and white star symbol.   Maybe you've seen it on some hard core skater kids. Here's an example..

I modified the star to be a compass rose as a symbol of adventure and added a paddle and rod to represent kayak angling.  I could probably find a better compass rose or maybe the crossed kayaks would work.  I also think Erik's font is a bit clearer and still in line with the whole concept.  Do you have a font name Erik?

That Nor*Cal logo is probably one of the most successful logos I've ever seen.  If I could get a dollar for every time I've seen that on a vehicle, I'd be a rich man.

Sky... good work. These are all looking very nice and clean.

One more minor observation on #26.  The fishing line coming from the end of the rod to the water should be a straight line.  The rod should arc, but the line should be straight.

A couple new variations I did last night...  (new Algerian font, different compass rose, lingcod head, website at bottom)

Yet another VERY rough idea to throw into the mix. I've always liked the paddler outline on our current logo so I tried to incorporate it with design simplicity, what we do, and colors of kayaks and blood (for those hardcore fishermen!).

I love that ling logo.  It's what excites most of us NCKA'ers and monster lings set us apart from our SoCal bros.

I just hope it doesn't scare little kids. :smt005
A salmon or striper might work too, but it might not be as symbolic as our love for rockfishing.

BigJ.... that has good potential too.  I wonder how it would look if we made used a silohutte of this "JTF" rendering in your oval logo.

I think I still need to do some work on the paddle and fishing rod and the URL isn't necessary.  However, I'm very proud of that ling, it's a photoshoped image from a photo I took a couple years ago.  If that ling doesn't make it into a logo, I'm going to work on making some t-shirts anyway.  Maybe I'll see if Sean wants to use it for the Elk t-shirt.

Love the ling logo.  That thing looks ferocious...and overall the logo is really an eye catcher.

Great idea!....   Go for it Sean!
To me, the lingasaurus is more symbolic of Elk than a cute red rockfish. :smt003

and the URL isn't necessary

IMO: the url is very important. Gotta have the url visible so people know what we are all about. When I was at the Fred Hall Show, people kept asking what NCKA stood for.....kinda gets old when you have to keep explaining what it means  :smt011

Just my 2 cents.....
