Wwhere is Zeelander in this thread.  He is great at this kind of deal.  I like the skygreean brownish one best so far.

Wow... this is going to be a tough task with so much input and different opinions...

I agree that main guy should have his rod going bendo at least.
I've seen a lot of "bendo" pics, but these shots at Elk taken by Ben of JTF capture the essence of ocean kayak fishing in NorCal... for me anyways.  I feel that the new logo should reflect the "extreme sports" aspect of fishing.

Marmite, yours is really cool. I think it is great! maybe just a little more work on the fish...
I agree with Bill.  This could be really cool with bolder colors and a little work on the fish and the kayak.... but I think you're on the right track.  :smt023

Thanks SCWA fish.  :smt006 Um, yeah I think we're headed in the right direction with simple bold shapes. Although one thing I think I'd like to see to make the logo really feel alive is more the excitement of the catch. Kind of what ChuckE was saying. I also like the pic of JTF fighting the Rockie so maybe use that and get some facial expression to really try and capture the essence of what we're out there fishing for. I mean we like bieng on the water but we all really love to hook up with a fattie! :smt007

And although I understand what's bieng said about comraderie etc. too many figures just mucks up the overall design and makes it confusing. Simple, bold, and plain is the way to go to me.

Plastic Navy has captured this pretty well I think.

100+ shirts are not something I am excited about getting into right now. I don't want to be stuck with 100 XS shirts etc...

Having been there and done that I'm gonna say good call!

FYI-Zee is in the process of giving the GKKC artwork a pimpin' and it looks SOOOOO good!

I like 3 and 6.  The white background is cool and would make good clear window stickers.

I really like Sky 7.  I really became unclear to me as to what was really the goal for this logo.  It seemed like for some an "activity sticker" was the goal.  Name recognition for "NCKA" didn't seem to be the purpose since it wasn't even present.  And if the goal was to communicate the web address, even this would be hard to read in some of the designs, say from a passing car.

I pulled the following off a site on logo design:

Logo design is considered to be the tool which helps in giving the first impression of the business.

Advantages of logo design?

Most of designers will respond the following:
Logo design promotes the business professionally in the market.
Logo design helps in attracting potential customers and client to the business.
Logo design gives a unique and innovative identity to the business.
Logo design is as important to the business as the business name.

What to look for in a logo design?

A logo design should be eye catching and simple. It should be design using simple color pattern and terse text and should not be unnecessarily ornated.

But this new design seems to accomplish much more and communicates the passion and dynamic nature of the sport.

It can even be stylized and reduced to a single color if that is more practical.

They look great but now they look similar to Plastic Navy's logo. I still prefert his design (just add another kayak fisherman in the picture) cause it shows "NorCal" and it's "Original"

1) the scenery reminds me of Elk
2) two kayak fisherman is a good example of the "buddy system"
3) the color stands out

just my 2 cents....

Something to be said for originality.

Zee... care to offer up a design?
Thanks for the vote of confidence. Sure, it might take me a few days with my current work schedule, so if it doesn't need to be done soon I'll see what I can whip up.

Also, I think we can make a hybrid of the JTF pic and the Sky design. I think that could satisfy the needs of a majority of us.

Anyone have the link to the fullsize pic of JTF? Thanks!

Might be fun to just throw down the gauntlet and have a deadline for anyone who's interested to submit a logo for consideration.   Limitations being X number of colors max.  No gradients.  Specify resolution.  Etc.

I'd offer up a gaff for the winner.

EK

I misread your post Eric.  I thought you said, "I'll offer a fishing pole to the winner", instead of suggesting to Bill he should offer a fishing pole as the prize for the winner. :smt010

That's why I spent so much time coming up with so many designs.

I also thought everyone was suppose to submit their own designs, (not modifications of mine) and then we would vote to see whose logo's wins.

I will also throw in a hoodie with the new logo to the winner.

Let's but a deadline on it for next Friday, April 20th for submissions. Then I will post a new poll with the winner of the current poll with any submissions.

I never said anything about a fishing rod.  I don't know where you got that idea.

I said I'd offer up one of my personalized floating gaffs to the winner... a gaff being a hook used to land saltwater fish.
