Thanks for the tip, michael1one.  Looks like that's the direction I'm going to go.  My only real last question is can you explain the concept behind doing a water bath?  I'm pretty sure I get the process, but just don't really understand the concept behind it.

And as for the foam, I'm guessing since FishingAddict used an old swimming kick board, the foam doesn't need to be able to soak up water, but is just used as the vessel to hold the transducer and the Duct Seal creates the water tight seal to hold the water in.

Alternatively, you could glue the transducer (without air bubbles) to the inside of the hull, but then you would not be able to move it and the signal would not be as good as a water bath.

Why do you say the signal would not "be as good?"  I have used Marine Goop fro in-hull transducers and it worked just fine.  You lose the water temp readings, though...

Bushy,

As a noob, I wouldn't pretend to know as much as you guys.  Just sharing what I have read that all liquids and gels have dissolved gases which can come out of solution depending on the temperature. Air bubbles are the enemy of fishfinder.  I work with some $300k ultrasound transducers and the substance we use as an interface product can have a noticible affect on the final image.  Fishfinders are not as sophisticated and the wave lengths are different, but theoretically the image can be affected.  The problem is that you may not know if the transducer if glued in.  Alternatively, the effect might be mitigated if the density of the goop is similar to that of the hull and therefore leading to one less interface.  Its all theoretical and hard to prove given the variable real life situation that we face.   To the OP, I would say that there is probably no choice is wrong given the varied opinions.

Yeah.  In the "wayback" every other forum post was how to use Marine Goop and avoid air bubbles.  (Put the Goop tube spout right on the bottom of your boat, and squeeze it out slow. One big long squeeze. Then, set your transducer into the big glop, twist back and forth twice to nestle, and put a brick on top of it for 24 hours).
