Hey Howard.  I have found that negotiating a price with Comcast works best by asking for a 2 year contract with no accelerations.  When I get close to the end of the 2 year term, I call and insist on the same deal for an additional two year period.  I pay $199 per month for high speed internet, unlimited VOIP  "landline" service and a  couple hundred channels of TV, including HBO, Showtime and a few other premium channels.  That rate also includes a monthly lease fee for a 2- channel Cisco, high speed modem and router plus a second box for the guest room TV.  Hobie-Dave and I took my bill and his into the local Comcast store and were able to secure the same deal for him.  Much less than he had been paying in the past.  He pays a little more than me because Vallejo City taxes are much higher than Danville.  The Xfinity to go app is a nice "no cost" additional benefit with Comcast.  If you can stream, you have access to your entire DVR and lots of live TV.  I know there are a lot of cable haters out there but I have found Comcast to be the best deal out there.  You just have to stay away from their limited time offers.  And YES, I watch sports.
Martin, the $195 I was being charged is for internet and cable only. Landline is with AT&T (not sure how much longer...nothing but spam calls). No second box. I own my own router and modem. The additional 100 plus channels are duplicates of what are already in the lineup...smoke & mirrors. And...I have never been knowlingly on 2-year deals. I listen to the TV more than I watch it. So I want to find better use for my dollar expenditure.

You can't cut the cable/satellite if you watch a lot of sports.  It's the only reason I still have directv.  I'm still considering getting rid of it since $1500/yr is a lot to be able to watch Giants baseball and college football.

A VPN works, I have a friend who uses one to watch MLB in market games on mlb.tv.  I'm pretty sure that's against the terms and conditions though.

I wish they would offer an in market package.  I'd pay a few hundred bucks for that and get rid of directv.
$1500 a year to watch the Giants???   :smt005

To be fair, I almost always listen to the radio broadcast. It's $1500/yr so Mrs. oyster boy can watch the Giants and not come out to the garage to bug me in my man cave.
So, the rest of the house is the woman cave?  :smt005 :smt006

One wife and two daughters. Even the cats are all female. So yes.

The dog and I hang in the garage with kayaks and fishing gear and guns and tools and Jon miller and David B Fleming and whatnot.

never had a cord to cut... i use sonic for internet and voip phone, all for ~$55/month post tax.  i get about 20mbps download where i'm at.  we, err... the kids use roku/netflix ($10) to watch stuff.  we have amazon prime, but never use for movies.  for sports, i go to a bar or friend's house.

my parents have same problem like you $$$.  thanks for the reminder to call ATT retention dept to try and get them a promo rate.  unlike me, they need their TV shows and sports.

Like others, we dont pay for live TV, just internet, Netflix, and Amazon Prime (sorta), and know how to install Kodi on a variety of devices now.  The real cord to cut is Live TV imho.  I dont care what is on, I only care about what I want to watch.  AND without comercials is a must.  I'm tired of wasting part of my life watching what other people want me to watch, and buy, and recommend, blah blah blah.  Just dont care when I watch the new episodes of a show I like, I'll just wait until the entire season is over and out on Netflix and watch it then.  We have the lowest speed internet and it's fine for watching HD TV shows on multiple devices at the same time.  No home phone, just cell phones, cheap internet, Netflix and Amazon.

I have comcast cable TV, Internet and telephone all for well under $200 a month.  The internet is over 150mbps and the TV includes many movie channels and all the sports channels.

Not that comcast hasn't tried to raise my rates, they have.  However, when they try I tell them I was planning to cancel anyways and that there are other fish in the sea.  They are welcome to BID on a package and I'll consider it.  Twice they thought I was bluffing, but there's enough OTA broadcasting I can get to hold me over.  Within a week or two, they offer me a new customer two year package at $169 a month and I accept.

Have you tried negotiating the rate with them?  Might be a regional thing.  Since I'm in a sparsely populated area, they may need more customers to justify the infrastructure they have invested out this way to pay for it and a paying customer is better than no customer even if it has to be discounted.

In Crescent City we pay $60 a month for Charter internet which includes Netflix and a bunch of channels I don't have time to watch. No local news which I kind of miss and news channels that are delayed 3-4 hours, but I figure I can't do anything about it anyway. For live games on TV that I REALLY want to watch I go down to the local pub and watch them and have a beer.

It's only good for live broadcast.  And, there is a system you gotta use to get past the ads.  usualy three ads.  Look for the hidden "X"  click it and be ready to close any new windows or tabs that open.  Click it again the ad will dissapear.  Do that 3 times and you're in.  But live only.  For re-cast of ufc,  mmashare or mma versus.

No cable here. We just use a Roku to stream shows on Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime. We also have bunny ears for local TV.

The best part is... NO COMMERCIALS!!!

With cable, you're basically paying them to show you ads...

With Xfinity voice you can use Nomorobo.com which eliminates at least 90% of the junk calls.  It costs nothing.  There's no reason you shouldn't be able to get the same Comcast deal as me.

No cable / satellite, to much money for 400 channels when you watch 3 or 4 of them.

We got a Roku and built a home server. The Home server is using used enterprise hardware, dual socket Xeon E5 8 core processors, 64gigs ram, 24TB's storage. I run all my movies and TV shows on there and home video camera security system. We really like our system, i share my server with a small group of friends, download new releases on a weekly basis, no brain washing commercials :smt003

We pay 40 each for phone service which included mobile hot spot options.  At home we connect her Mac desktop via one of our phones to watch Netflix or Hulu.  Commercial free, cheap, and we watch what we want when we want.  Supplemented by library DVDs we don't feel we are missing much.
