He is likely been doing this for years, and made couple of hundred thousands, he only get fined 30g and his equipment to be returned.  I bet he will do this again. 

Holy Crappie... yes, the boat and truck returned.. not $20K of fishing equipment.
But heck, what do Crappie sell for to make that worth it? And if they went to a restaurant did the patrons know they were eating clearlake  (mercury-containing crappie?). I had no idea these were so valuable. No wonder Weimerian pursues them so relentlessly!
 

Casting those kind of comments in my direction could be misunderstood!!!! I only look for that elusive 18" crappie and promptly return all my fish to the water! (Allergic to fish) as DFW does look at boards... Just sayin! And yes, I will find that fish at Rollins!!!!!

Each fish is priceless to a small child. So the forfeiture order is not excessive, and they should have been thrown in jail for 5 years minimum.

Fried Crappie are super yummy!   Just not the ones from Mercuryfornia. Midwestern crappie don't have the mercury problem and are very tasty! 
They should have kept the boston whaler. That would have put some hurt on him...

My uncle cooked some crappie I gave him and said it was the best fish he ever ate.  Crappie are amazing when caught from the deep water reservoirs (melones, mcclure, etc) and steamed like you would a rockfish. very delicate, delicious and clean tasting. 

I bet the whole poaching thing would end quickly if there was a bounty placed on poachers. 

Also, if gang bangers can be paid to not shoot each other, how about paying fishermen to not poach? 

But seriously, way too much time was spent and resources pillaged before they made a move on these guys.  Bust 'em or move on, but letting them continue to commit crimes while they know it's going on just to be able t run up the charges isn't the best value.  All it's telling anyone is that you really gotta be into poaching big time before they swoop in.
