I assume the better the vis the better the fishing? Is it a lot harder to catch fish when the vis is garbage?

As you know it sure makes a difference diving but have never had issues with line when visibility was bad.

Weather is looking good so I just decided I was going to dive today.  Grab your gear and head over the hill.

I've seen people catch fish in all kinds of waters, from red tide up in Mendo, to the slurry of river runoff water pushing its way up the SMC coast, etc.  It might be better when visibility is increased, but still can catch fish from what I've seen.  Also doesn't the vis clear up at greater depths?  Seen several vids of guys diving through the muck to find it clearer on the bottom.

It can...or it can be the exact opposite...I've had many days diving where it looks pretty clear on top and then at bottom it is a total black out...I think often when it is churned up and turbid (lots of particles in water), the particles block out light once you get past 30 feet or so...

Just curious about it for days where the vis is crap and I can't dive. Only tried a handful of times but it seemed like the days it was terrible i didn't catch anything. Just curious if it was related or coincidence.

From my experience, rockfishing when the water is very murky isn't as good as when you have at least a couple feet of vis.  I'll still catch fish in the murk, but it's usually a tough day.  I try to add a lot of scent to my lures or use straight bait if I'm fishing murky stuff, seems to help.

But, is it tough because it's murky, or because of an increased swell, with the murk just being a side effect of the swell?
I don't like stuff that sucks.
