Why is June the "offseason" for So-Cal sportfishing? Why are the June trips the last to sell out? Is the fishing that much worse, or not as good as every single other month? Is the weather that much more of a gamble in June?

I'd really like to jump on one of the Excel trips, but they pretty much only have open spots in June. Is it worth booking a June trip or would it be better to try to book something next year?

Regarding the 1 to 3 day trips, that's a good question. May is usually the month for many outfits putting their boats into drydock for maintenance.

I'm super tempted to sign up for the 8 day Fenix chartered trip.

The Excel.

The Intrepid also has a decent variety of 3 to 8 day trips with spots still available throughout the year.

I think I'd like to do at least a 5 day trip. Especially if our Islander trip does not materialize.

That 8-day price is approx $700 cheaper than a prime time 7-day trip. I remember one of Alan Tani's early season trips 2 or 3 years ago getting into some big fish.

The Independence has one spot available for its 8-day trip. Same price. Love the boat.

Is it that the weather is poor during that time frame which is often referred to as June Gloom due to the fog hanging around?

The Independence also has an 8 day Seeker sponsored trip with one spot open for that discounted price.

Are you going on any long range trips this year, Howard?

I go every year with the Half Moon Bay Sportfishing trip on the Independence. I've been thinking about taking a second trip but don't know here I would store all of the additional fish :) or if I would wear out my fish cleaning crew.  :smt005

I think June is a crapshoot for tuna and dorado.  By later in the year, you can be more sure that they'll be within range.  The last year or two have been outliers in that regard, though.
