Knowing that oftentimes a group of people like ourselves share common interests, I thought I'd share the following info just in case anyone wants to join in...

Black Cat Paintball Productions is running a 48-hour scenario paintball game at the end of next month (April 27-29), down in the Fort Ord Military Complex in Monterey.  This will be a BIG game, with an expected turnout of close to 600 players.  The area being used is close to the university, in the old military dorms...in fact, we'll be playing in & around 36 of the 2-story buildings.

Black Cat is an Ohio-based producer who travels the country and puts on excellent paintball scenario games.  I've attended 5-6 of their events over the past 3 years and and an absolute blast at each one of them.  I even won a new marker in the costume contest last December, where I dressed in a giant banana costume for the Planet of the Apes scenario game...yeah, go ahead and laugh...the gun I walked away with was worth $200 - quite a bit more than my dignity goes for.   :smt005

If any of you are paintball players and would like to attend this event, you can find all of the pertinent info here: http://www.blackcatpaintball.com/events/07/stalig_alpha/main.htm

I'll be there with my small scenario team (Team Half-Fast...Accepting nothing less than 100% commitment, half of the time!), and any of you are more than welcome to join us.  Check out the game link, or PM me for more info.

Along those lines, if any of you are interested in getting together for a NCKA paintball game, I'd be more than happy to arrange it.  I know a couple of good fields in the area, and am good friends with the guy who runs SCAR, a small outdoor field of Ft Ord.  Depending on interest we can either join in on an open game or have a private game, depending on numbers.

I always wated to do this....but just getting suited up can cost a lot of money....and kayak fishing already drains my pockets  :smt011

Had thoughts of serving after H.S. but my knees were already showing signs of wear and tear. :smt011

How much are rentals?

Rentals for the regular weekend games vary depending where you go.  SCAR runs between $30 & $35 for those who need everything...price includes a semi-auto marker, facemask, and 100 rounds of paint.  Paint runs about $55 a case (2000 rounds, so split it with friends unless you shoot like I do).  Self-equipped players pay $25 for field fees.  The field at SCAR isn't woodsball, so attire is really not an issue.  Most people wear jeans or sweats.  Mooch, for you I'd recommend wearing your speedo and a bright red Hawaiian shirt.  You can be my decoy.   :smt044

Sounds cool, I'm no pro but I started playing a couple of years ago...good times I tell ya.

If the NCKA team thing materializes I'd like to join in and I can most likely get a couple of extra markers to loan out.

Joel if you are serious I have most of the stuff you need except fresh paint
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

Well, like I said, the rental fee covers the cost of all the gear and all day playing, so even those without access to loaner gear can play for just $10 more than the self-equipped players.  Paint has to be bought at the field, so the fresh paint issue is resolved there (most fields these days are field-paint only, it's where they make their money).

If we play at SCAR in Fort Ord, people wear just about anything.  If we want to play a woodsball game you folks might want to get camos though, or at least wear neutral-colored clothing.  If anyone plans on going to the Black Cat game let me know...those fees are completely different (but well worth the price).

But it sounds like there's some interest in a friendly weekend game sometime in the future!  :smt023  There's a also nice woodsball field in the Santa Cruz mountains, right on the edge if the Forest of Nisene Marks.  It's one of the fields that I've played at on and off since the late 80's...there's a new owner there now, and while they don't have field rentals yet the guy says they will soon.  He's selling paint a bit cheaper also.  I'll let you know when that pans out...it's a great field and a lot bigger than SCAR.

And Brian G., what the heck is "Lodi style"?  :smt017

Ahhh... paintball.  I was big into the sport when it first got started.  I remember it being expensive.  I usually spent about $60 a day for ammo, field fees, CO2, etc.  I played competively when I lived in Oklahoma and our team took only 5 minutes to beat the Army team from Fort Sil.  The game was scheduled for 45 minutes.  How sad is that!!!

Yeah, that has happened before.  Different mindsets...experienced paintball players tend to be more aggressive, knowing that if they get shot with a paintball they can still go home and resume their lives, while the soldiers train for the real deal so the often start out playing more conservatively.  Better tactics usually, but "spray and pray" has it's merits.  :smt002  The ones to watch out for are the SpecOp guys who also have paintball experience...they'll eat your lunch.  :smt087

Chuck, I usually spend $25 for the field fees and go thru at least a case of paint, depending on the game.  Big games like the Black Cat scenario will see me going thru 2+ cases easily, and of course the field fees are more.  (BTW, I forgot to mention that the field fees mentioned above include all-day air)  So yeah, it can be expensive (but so can fishing  :smt003)  When my wife and kids play they shoot a lot less, usually sharing a case between all three of them (and giving me the leftovers). :smt002  I find that most newer players tend to shoot less, which also helps keep the price down.

Oh, forgot to say that if you spent that much when the sport first got started you must be one bad-a$$ dude!  $60 a day, shooting those old 12-gram Sheridan pump guns that held a 10-round tube of paint?  You animal!  :smt005

I'd suggest wearing a cup too.  That's not provided in the rental.  Welts are okay in some places, not in others.

Cups are hell if your gonna superman slide or crawl on your belly.  Might I suggest a piece of foam or place mat cut to fit into your tighty whities or boxer brief "pocket."

I got rid of most of my high end gear to pay for the yak but I kept my modified pump gun and mini-vertibrate auto cocker.  Wish I wasn't forced to sell my Intimidator....I could mowed down seals all day with it.

I'd be down for a woodsball game, I had the most fun at Sherwood in Vallejo (not sure if its still around).
..........agarcia is just an ex-kayaker
