Since you can never make everybody happy with the location, why not make it a spoil of victory.  AOTY winner picks the location in even years, DOTY winner picks in odd years.  That way anyone who doesn't like it can just win next time and have it where they want it.  THat would be one less thing to argue about each winter.

In years past, we had plenty of AOTY awards ceremonies at locations with no fishing at all.  There's no problem to me if we don't have fishing, or diving.  But to have the potential option would be nice.  Coastal options are simply not useful for the majority of kayak fishermen in Jan/Feb as rockfish are closed - the only AOTY targets during this time are Perch and maybe Flatfish, and the ocean conditions are so variable that no one could know if it would even be fishable.

A nice centrally located inland location with good weather is, to me, the preference for "Awards" as it allows us to be in our best location to host the ceremony and honor the participants.  Last year we did it at O'Neill Forebay, and relatively few people went fishing.  It was a good location for gathering and hanging out, but not very centrally located for the Sac and North Coast participants.  My general preference is something in the bay area for that reason - it has multiple options for people getting there and generally nice weather.

In the past, we've hosted the events at Headwaters, Foster City Lagoon, and San Leandro Marina (there was some fishing, but not much success).  These locations are more of an "Awards Ceremony/Gathering" than a fishing/diving event.

I agree. How's the first weekend in Feb sound? Im think by somewhere like Doran or Bodega. Diving for the divers, crabbing for the rest of us, and shitty weather highly likely. Alternates are Big Break in Oakley, Clearlake, Clayman's living room  :smt044, Tahoe/Truckee, or your mom's house.  :smt006 :smt006

Plenty of diving to be had at CL, crawdads and old anchors could be fun.

I took a wave runner for a spin on Clearlake once and had some weird ass skin condition/rash afterwards.  I am up for a BBQ anywhere but would never get into the water there.

Isn't first weekend superbowl weekend? I know it is Junior waterfowl, so we will be busting birds. The following weekend, the 11th is an option, the 12th is late goose hunt. After that hunting is done, kinda, and weekends are open.

Piggybacking on Crabfest always seemed like a good idea but what do I know.  Tahoe/Truckee would be cool but its a long way from the lost coast.  A big mac competition in arctic conditions?  Oh yeah.  Clayman's livingroom seems like a bad idea, the delta might mean that someone actually enters a sturgeon one of these years, and my mom is in heaven with the other angels so unless you are quite certain that you can get in and are ready to give up on this earthly life, I'd recommend a hard pass.

I don't know. I don't watch feetball. Is Cody available on the 11th? I would like it if all of the champs have a chance to attend.

Alright, we are looking at Feb 11th as our event date.

Location: We are currently looking hard at Big Break Marina in Oakley.

Advantages:
We have access to facilities if weather is nasty
No need for event permits
It's about as central NorCal as we can get
Fishing!!!

Disadvantages:
No local diving opportunities.

Thanks all I will leave the 11th open for now.  Last year it was a 6 hour drive each way so hoping for a closer location.
