This looks like a blast!!!

Unfortunately, I just checked, and I've already got plans for that weekend in Mendocino at a musician's retreat campout.  Grrr...

I'm going to have a blast, but I really want to do this, too!

It's only 15 miles away, maybe I can come by on the way out of town, and fish for Sunday.  Hmmm.

Too many cool things to do @ the same time.  Life is rough.

Thanks Joel,

It was the highlight of my yakfishing year in 06. I just came back early from lunch lest I miss the scramble. Look forward to seeing everyone again. Good luck to all.

Hey Keyote, I wouldn't worry too much quite yet,  last I heard signup was going to go live around 7 pm.   However, I keep checking just in case too.

This from Bill in an early post on this thread...

Hmm I have not thought time yet. Let's say around 7 PM.

$50 per angler, same as last year.

Bill, any updates to this time?

Brian - nothing has changed - leave Papa Bill alone  :smt075 I feel sorry for the guy.....every time Elk comes around, his stress level goes up the charts :smt011 Bill tries REALLY hard to keep everyone happy but this is totally out of his hands. So, if you make the cut, good for you but if you don't, PLEASE DO NOT TAKE IT PERSONAL.

Good luck to all! And remember that there's always Mendo if you don't make it to Elk this time around  :smt002

Peace out  :smt109

Hey Joel,  I don't mean to give Bill a hard time about this (I do that enough already regarding AOTY).  We really need to come up with a better way to do this, the whole "ticketmaster" like approach seems pretty stressful for Bill.  My personal favorite is a rather complicated point system based on a calculation that takes into account your age (a), how long you've been a member in days (t), how many posts you have (p), how far away you live from Elk in miles (d), how many tournaments (including AOTY) you've won (w), all multiplied by your WAF (or HAF, GAF, BAF, etc).

Points = (a*(t + p)*w*WAF)/d

Sorry Joel, but considering you don't even have any WAF your points are something like the following...

(38*(848+5890)*2*0)/140 = 0

Sorry Joel, but you lack of any WAF would be a really put a hurting on you.  All I have to do is insure that keep a postitive WAF.

I think it should be done by lottery. Length of memebership determines number of entries.

We should have a poll started for next year to detemine the method of entry. We as a group should decide so Bill doesn't have to stress as much over this.

I'm working on an auto-reply for this years Elk signup.  I don't have to even be in the room, as soon as it's announced Bill will have my reply and my paypal payment for him will be waiting.

Yeah, I wish!   This is the more likely scenario....I'm sitting at the dinner table at 6:50 pm eating dinner with my wife and son and....

[Amy (my wife)]  "Honey, what's wrong?  Why do you keep looking at your watch?"
[Me] "Um, I have to check the kayak fishing board so that I can sign up for Elk"
[Amy] (rolls her eyes) "Not those kayak fishing guys again!  Can't it wait until after dinner, and after you give you son a bath and send him off to bed?  By the way, how was work?"

6:55 pm
[Me]   "Um, what was that?" (stares into living room at computer).
[Amy] "Brian, are you ignoring me?  I asked you about work.  Stop looking over at the computer and enjoy dinner with your family!"
[Me] "Um, if you'll excuse me I, ahh... need to go to the bathroom"
[Amy] "Yeah right,  I don't think so Buster.  Here have some more broccoli and tell me more about your day"

I then spend the next 5 minutes trying to calculate how much WAF it would cost me to leave the kitchen at 7:00 pm, log in, hit refresh a million times, and attempt to sign up as quickly as possible.   But I need to remember to balance this with making sure that come August I still have enough WAF to actually go to Elk.   Alternatively, do I leave the WAF alone and risk signing up at 8:45 pm when my son is finally off to bed and I can do what I want?

These are among the many things that have kept me from being productive at work today.  That and my network connection to my home office at the Smithsonian seems to be down.

Maybe we are going to have to make Elk an Invitational tourney.  You could rank by number of posts and past tournament entries.  Our we can just let Bill decide.  But regardless I will sign up tonight fo sho'

Brian,
Ditto that same exact dinner scenario with my wife.  Especially the part about giving our daughter a bath and paying attention to the conversation.  It actually happens all the time with me though, during every Lakers game.  Can't wait to go to Elk, my wife and daughter will be in Indiana that week. woohoo!

I agree with Bigfoot.
