Decided to give it a try since I was down here for thanksgiving. I have not seen any kayakers crabbing and was told that it's too far to get out to where the crabs are.  They were right.
Paddled out a mile and a half from Monterey Bay Kayak to the Red Buoy and dropped two pots outside the buoy in about 150 feet of water.  Would like to have soaked for longer but my niece got sea sick and headed back in so the pots got a hour and half hour. Pulling a weighted pot from 150 ft was a lot of work for an empty pot.
Will probably never do this from a kayak again. Would like to get out on a boat.

Not crab from a kayak or not crab at 150'?  Super effort no doubt. :smt006

If you give it another shot. I would recommend launching from Lovers point and heading east towards soldiers club about a mile or so. That is more towards the crabbing grounds.

we were kayaking last month with a large otter who was long duration diving 180 or at least we were at the pt pinos can in 180-220 and it was hitting a long narrow reef coming up to ,i guess in 150-160 range...

they go easy 120 all day at the hotel cans...

there are nice dungy in the bay but it is so far
north/east of lovers paddle out seems like 2 miles to 220 + or get there in general the deep crab grounds-by heading west of marina, if anyone has legs/arms to get down there from mbk, or can shore launch with traps...and be able to stay all day.  :smt003.. + you gotta paddle out 1 mile.. which is the mayor of monterey's office.... and pull on 220+' f .o rope ---rope is slimey - seasonally- covered in huge jellies and coated in burny goo...for sure if left 24hr etc.....so

monterey crabbing me  0-3

snails and gross mossy spider crabs in 100-180 when overnighted

nada in 200 for a half day soak with 2 traps...

3rd time---150' of rope in 180 f.o.w so no report yet  :smt010

imho mb crabbing from a kayak sucks

I went out there in 250ft across from Otter cove. After 4 hours soak time, I pulled up 4 females and a bunch of sand dabs.
It was a long way out there, by now everyone should know kayak crabbing in Monterey is tough on kayak.

One day, I will drop in 300-350ft and see if I can pull any legal male out there. Anyone interested?

Anybody ever try from Moss Landing?   Few years ago a boat came in with limits.  Said they were in 110 FOW

Give it a month or so and the crab will be in 30 ft in HMB. I for 1 don't want to deal with 200ft of rope. Or grab a friend with a boat. I am all for a kayak crabbing adventure, but I am super picky about conditions and depth. It's a lot more gear and rope than I am used to.  Be safe
I only fish on days that end with Y
