It definately make you think, Chuck.  From my understanding, my fish and Franks fish came from darn near the same exact spot.

About couple seasons ago, a kid caught a 40 pounder plugging from shore right there near Crab Cove.  Wouldn't that be fun from a yak!!!

My story, went out at high tide last night around 230 in the morning, netted 6 shiner perch.  Left my baitbucket tied up underneath a dock in alameda.  Woke up at 730 this morning, made sandwiches, got coffee, loaded kayak and drove to alameda.  Picked up shiners, arrived at launch, got in the water, paddled into incoming tide and wind to very end of rockwall.  Hung around Duane and Don(danglin) for awhile on the drift back.

ChuckE joined me near the flag pole and we drifted towards the yacht club.  The drift was fast.  I was using a 3way swivel with a 5oz banana sinker 12".  The leader was 25lb flourocarbon with a 2/0 live bait hook about 24" long.  I reeled up to show ChuckE the fatty shiner I had on and he said, "If that thing dont get hit, there ain't no butts around here."

About 2 minutes later my rod gets 2 zips and a run.  I slightly tightened my overly loose drag on the good ole corsair 300 and started fighting the fish.  I thought striper at first from the size of the hit but soon got it up to see a beauty of a butt.  The video does the rest.

I was glad to assist you Frank.  That rod/reel combo you were using was super light, I was impressed at your patience fighting that fish.  It didn't want to cooperate sittin under your yak the whole time.  You only had one real good shot with your net the whole time but the fish wasn't tired then.  Freaked me out a little to be responsible for the net job, when I saw what that thing was doin I opted to come in and assist, I was super nervous!!!!  :smt009  Then, after all that, I was so mad at your halibut I beat him extra good.  Great day on the water indeed!!!!

I may or may not get out there again Ben, Nate, just depends on my work situation.   Or lack of.  That hali will keep me fed for at least a few days. :smt002

Well, fiesta time at my casa, my fish is already cleaned and waitin to be grilled.

wow! that is awesome, thank you for sharing!

if i were one of those butts and managed to shake off the hits to the head and head back in the water i would tell all my friends and their friends to stay away from the guy weilding the bat!

he's got a swing rivaling the cops in london!

great job!
