a buddy and i(despite the forcast) left for the lake at 5:30ish and put the yaks in the water at about 7:00 with visions of king salmon on the mind.slight rain but didnt last long.we paddled(peddled) out the mouth and over to skiers cove where after about 15 min. got our first salmon.from then on we slowly picked em off.we didnt realize how long it would take to get around the lake.we ended up doing almost 17 miles by the time we got back to the launch at 7:15.we trolled all around from ranch house to the big island slowly picking at them.and did some c & r so we could fish more. we were working weighted lines with dodgers and downriggers with everything from castmasters to spoons.seemed like they prefered metal over the  regular lures.fish were caught between 20'-60'.limits of little tasty salmon with the biggest being 18"-19".   i never went that far for that long.i was definetly weathered by the time we got back to the launch,but all in all a great day.

Right on!  Nice catch.  I bet those little guys are a lot of fun and good eats too! 

I'd be interested to know which lures worked best... size, etc.

Nice report. I love seeing new fisheries explored via kayak.  In the last few months we've seen Russian River steelhead,  Lake Sonoma smallmouth and land-locked steelhead, and now Lake Berryessa land-locked kings. 

What's next?

I'm think Russian River shad or Detla carp.   Of course there is always mother-shipped humboldt squid?

Way To Go!!  Nice fish and pictures.  I would love to see some more pictures of your downrigger setup.  It seems like it would be great for ocean Salmon too!  I don't care much for diving planes or for dumping lead all over the ocean.

Wow, great day for you guys! That fish makes my mouth water--yum! I didn't know you installed a downrigger. I'll have to check it out the next time I see you on the water. Thanks for sharing the pix, too.

Nice catch!  You guys really covered some ground...er, water!  Where did you launch from?

Remember, B-n-T will be having a float tube/kayak bass tourney this weekend (Sat/Sun).  Check-in is at 6AM @ Steele Park ramp.  You will need something to keep your fish alive until weigh-in (4PM Sat, 1PM Sun) in order to fish.  More info on the tourney page...hope to see some of you out there.

windrider,its a scotty laketroller with a nimble scotty rod holder mount(extension),then i just wrapped duct tape around the extension untill the diameter of the stock rodholder is reached in the hobie.works very well.....simple/no holes(more) in the yak/and completly removable!

Nice catch there. Thats a lot of water to cover in a day I could just feel the aching muscles. Are you sure those are land lock Kings, Not Coho (silver).

17 miles is a haul, but trolling with a buddy I'm sure made the time go by. Nice fishin
