Lake Sonoma overnighter

Anyone interested in doing a campout at Lake Sonoma this weekend? Yorty Creek at the back of the lake, paddle to campsite. Then bass fish your a$$ off!! At this point I'm just looking for the interest. Puttin out the feelers. Still gotta run it by the wife before I firm it up... Weather looks great and the fishing is on!!

Can't make it this weekend but the next we could do a MFF Tourney.

A MFF tourney combined with some boat-in camping would be awesome.  I probably won't be able to make it so I may have to live vicariously through this board so take a lot of photos.

Depending on the dates and if it isn't a guy-only event, I would be interested in joining you and others. Boat-in camping at Lake Sonoma (Skunk and Thumb camps) is one of my favorite places. I won't be offended if you tell me you'd rather I pass on this weekend, but just know that for a tourney I'm NOT a fishing threat!

You can always get your own campsite if you feel intimidated by a bunch of guys.  But I believe it's an unofficial policy that we don't discriminate against race, gender, etc.. for these sorts of events.

As for the tourney and you not being a threat... if it's a "biggest single fish wins" format everybody who enters is a threat.

I want to fish this lake so bad,but I promissed that I was gonna hunt BIG FISH this weekend in the bay or delta.
We got monsters up in the slough and butts down at the wall.Brian posts his pic with a 17" smallie and I'm ready to break my promise and drive 1.5 to chase smallmouth,which I have never had any success at!!
I like the sound of MFFtourny and camp( I need to do it LAZY STYLE though,out of the car)
Oh,this MADDNESS is FOR REAL!!

Yeah, you make reservations through www.reserveamerica.com. I'm not sure where people are planning to congregate, but Skunk and Thumb camps are nice and secluded. The paddle from Yorty Creek is an easy one...just know your boat feels different when it is loaded with camping gear and food. Other sites, such as Rustler and Logger, are across the main lake once you paddle out of Yorty Creek so you have to cross PB traffic. I'm excited about camping up there again!

I have never had to pack it ALL and survive w/o a few LUXEREY ITEMS (i.e.) lounge chair to chill,lots of blue-ice/ice to keep food&misc.,lots of water to clean with *dishes *myself and *drink,sleepbag&tent, bbq and/or stove and alot of other junk that I can't part with in case of: I don't know cuz I tend to over-plan help me in my MADDNESS!!

Ah.. sounds like someone needs to write an article on kayak/camping/fishing.

You can actually fit quite a bit in and on your kayak and the more people you go with the better becuase you can share gear and split the load up between you.

Here's a quick list of what I like to bring...

a couple big dry bags containing
   clothes (enough to stay warm, think layers)
   tent (best to share this if you can)
   sleeping bag
   sleeping pad
   any food that can't get wet
a few small dry bags containing
   matches
   head lamp
   map if needed
   camera (w/ etra batteries)
   my fishing electronics (GPS, radio, fish finder)
a small cooler with ice, food, drinks  (I tend to play it a bit risky and plan on eating fish which reduces the amount of food you need to bring, but can leave you a bit hungry if you get skunked.)
extra drinking water
fishing rods
fishing tackle
net
camping chair
a few tarps
campstove and fuel
lots of bungies and/or straps


As for packing...
 -Your fishing rods can stay in your rod holders if you have enough, otherwise stow them in the hatch.  If you're stowing you might find it better to remove the reels first, and wrap them up in a towel to protect them.
 -Fit as much as you can in your hatches (esp the heavy stuff like fishing tackle, camp stove, drinking water)
 -Strap/bungie the rest to the top of you kayak (esp the light stuff like clothes and sleeping bag).
 -Pray that you didn't over pack and are still within your kayak's load capacity (remove things if you have to)
 -Test how the kayak will ride, adjust if you're too heavy on one end versus the other.

Enjoy the paddle up to camp.  You'll probably find it hard to fish on your way to camp, so don't even worry about it.  Once you get to camp, set up your tent, unpack the rest of your gear, grab a beer and some food, relax, and get ready for the evening bite.

Oh, looking back at my photo... 4 of us and a dog where able to make it in a Caper, a Venus, a Scrambler and an Old Town sit-in-side.  I can't imagine all the gear we could have brought if we all had Prowler 15's or Mauraders.

Thnx fer da tips Brian. this will make my NEED TO COVER ALL BASES thinking a litle easier.....

This would be an awesome trip!  I'm sure Liz would be up to it now that she's got her prowler 15.

Post dates, lets get it going.

I'd be game if I could sand 200 otoliths in two days, NOT.  So maybe next weekend?
