A lot of my deaf friends live 6 to 8 people per house, rental. They scavenge for leftover jobs, work minimum wage, have no money to do anything with their lives. They spend more time unemployed than they do employed, no one wants to hire them, learning job skills cost money that they can barely afford to pay their rent + food for. They heavily rely on disability benefits to survive.

Under Obama a lot of them (myself not included, I am pretty much the Bill Gates of the deaf world as a business owner of a multi-million dollar HVAC company) finally started getting resources to grow and gain skills and get hired and maybe finally living a life less miserable. I was happy to see many of my deaf friends able to travel modestly, and progress in their lives. Hell, one of them was able to take classes and end up in a nice construction job that afforded him to buy a fishing boat! The disability benefits have helped them grow like that in the sense they can invest in their education or skills.

A lot of the things Trump claims he will do will set things back for us significantly, just when we were finally able to start moving forward and finding ways to help ourselves do so. Trump's presidency is a hell of a lot scarier for those of us in these extremely vulnerable positions. People like to claim it's laziness, but these people are always white abled guys. So I mostly ignore their opinions on things like this.

I do not know how a Trump presidency will influence the next four years. All I know is that the disabled are always the first to suffer when things get hard. And when politicans like to play political games. But it's not a game for us. It's not the difference between whether we will make a little more or a little less, or have a little harder time getting jobs or a little easier time getting jobs. It's the difference between living a life of slave-driven poverty, or having a life at all.

All I hope is that the overwhelming ignorance in regards to a lot of policies don't end up hurting our population just when it's finally starting to come onto it's own and grow. If Trump's policies can somehow do that, then I'll be glad. For now I'm just cautious and really worried for my friends who are in a much more vulnerable position than I am.

After all that peace, can't believe someone decided to open this can of worms.  Good job OP.

Lets keep this shit out of NCKA...please!

I'll gladly help out in locking this thread down.   :smt005

Is it really that bad? From what I read it seems like everyone is pulling their punches.

On FB, I watched all the craziness go down, not just with NCKA folks, but all around.  What I liked was that we (NCKA) kept that crap off of here and just stuck to what we do...fishing.

I know everyone has an opinion but its over with, lets not open this can of worms, not now, especially after we avoided it all this time.  Just my opinion.

+1

On the bright side, weed is legal now.
That seems good but....

"Estimates from the Tax Policy Center and the Tax Foundation estimate that the top 1 percent of income households would see their after-tax incomes rise by 10.2 to 13 percent under Trump’s plan, while “middle income” households -- those from the 40th to the 60th percentile -- would see an increase of 1.3 to 1.8 percent."

Doesn't seem so good :(.

- I am a Native Californian, born in San Francisco in 1950.

- Never expected the state to have a population of over 20 million.

- Always voted for legal protections, as did most of my family who believed that California needed to be protected from its own future of inevitable overdevelopment.

- Things have sunk fast ever since, and I don't think  :smt013, it is because of a recent national election?

- Sorry, but it IS the future.

California electoral votes went blue.
I don't pretend to really understand this system, so pardon my ignorance.  If I vote for Chris Farley, Mooch, or Polepole, how does that mean that I in essentially voted for Trump? I didn't vote for Trump, HRC, or Farley. The Dems won the states electoral votes and still lost the election. So, how does my vote contribute to that outcome?
Not wanting to settle for the less of two evils bullshit, I tried to concentrate my efforts on the state and local measures.
Those all went sideways too. :smt044

You're right. I don't know what mickfish is talking about. Anyone who thinks that a third party vote is what got Trump elected has not been paying attention.

It sure didn't make the difference for us in CA. But it was a factor nationally. 3rd party vote plus lower minority turnout for Hillary and higher rural turnout for Trump. In some states the election was close.

I think everyone can chill about Trump. He'll never act like a PC politician, but the world is not coming to an end. The Dems and Republicans in Congress and the courts will limit what he can do.

Trump is an awful person and will be an awful president. He's a racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic bully who mocks disabled people, who encourages violence at his rallies, who doesn't believe in climate change, and who has zero political experience. I'm sick of people comparing Trump and Hillary as equally bad. They are not the same at all.

Unless you're a straight white male with no pre-existing medical conditions, this election outcome will have huge consequences. Women, LBGT, Latinos, Muslims, etc will all lose. Health care will go out the window. Environmental protections will be loosened. He already has announced a climate change skeptic to be appointed to head of the EPA. He's announced plans to sign the First Amendment Defense Act, which will allow businesses to discriminate against the LBGT community. And this is only his first day after the election. He's not even in office yet.

So much is at stake. Anyone who didn't get out to vote is an idiot.

If Trump does even half of the horrible things he's promised to do, the country will be a mess in four years. I hope I'm proven wrong.
Thank you. Couldn't have said it better myself.
