I like fishing Shag Rock, Soda Bay and State Park area.  Lots of Crappie, Bass and Catfish.  Typical freshwater arsenal works pretty good there for me.  Minnows can be picked up at Clearlake Outdoors or the gas station a few blocks down the road from them.   Pretty Good launch sites at Braitos Marina or Clear Lake State Park

Lakeside Park, off of Soda Bay Rd is a free launch. My buddy has said a drop shot or shaky head did good for him last weekend around Soda Bay. He got  5.2 lber for his PB on a black and blue zoom miscarriages on a shaky head

Thanks guys for all the information.  I'll be heading out Sunday and will stay through Wednesday night. Hopefully the weather holds out. I haven't fished fresh water for some time now. Should be fun.

If you're looking for catfish, use an oily dead fish bait in deep water (30-40 feet).  Cruise around until you start marking cats on your depthfinder, they'll often be a few feet off the bottom.  Also fish under any schools of shad you may find.  As water temperatures cool, catfish get accustomed to feeding on dying threadfin shad.  I've found mid-day is the best time for fall cats.  They'll take live minnows too, but to be honest I've had greater success on dead baits.  In addition, dead baits are a helluva lot cheaper and less hassle than dealing with live minnows.
