It was my 5th year at GS and it only gets better and better!!  I would like to thank Eric Stockwell & Family and everyone else that helped make this another GS that I will never forget!  I almost didn't get out and fish for the 2nd year in a row but I made it out tourney day to chill with the dudes and try to catch a flatty.  But GS is never about the fishing anyways so I still had a great time chilling with everyone and stuffing myself like there's no tomorrow.   :smt044

It was great to see everyone having a good time, can't wait til the next one!

Thanks Eric and All who made GS happen!
Colby Karen and I enjoyed the great people, beautiful weather, and some time on the water at the cove....we'll definitely make that trip a few more times this summer.  Great photos and videos all.

Another outstanding tournament Eric. Big Jim great job on the raffle. Brandi the fish prints were awesome. Thank you Adam for doing the team scoring.  And Schuland the food and hospitality was off the charts.

Congratulations to my brother for vaulting our team to the championship. He caught his second ling at 1:10 so we could turn in two lings apiece.

I ended up catching 6 species:  gopher, china, black, cab, and ling.

GS11 was my first organized fishing event and will definitely NOT be my last.  Many thanks to Eric for organizing the overall event, Adam for handling the team event and sponsoring me, Ryan for pulling me onto his team, and all of the other fantastic organizers and participants!  NCKA definitely ROCKS!

Looking forward to GS12 and volunteering my efforts where needed in this most deserving organization!

Ben

BTW, the pics and videos are great!

Congrats to Terry and Ron for the individual+team domination!  Sounds like those were some uber-tough fishing conditions--the type of day where you need to make every bite count.  Looking forward to fishing with you guys this year, and at GS-12!
Thanks Chris. Everybody missed you and hopefully in August when salmon opens again at the cove we can fish together.

Echoing what every one else said,  thanks Eric and family for the time and effort you put in each year to make GS so special.  My only regret is I can't clone myself a few times to be able to take in all the awesomeness in such a short amount of time!

My GS Report:

Arrived Friday at 10a.  After dropping off gear at our rental house, took the boys tidepooling in front of the lighthouse, collecting crabs, hermit crabs, sculpins, and monkeyface eels to look at.  Did a quick semi-dive with Hightide, watched him get a limit of abs, and I grabbed a dozen uni to share later on. Even in less than 5 ft of water with no weight belt, legal abs are easy pickings here!  I even saw a nice sized greenling and a school of striped surf perch cruising around the shallows.  After diving, had a quick lunch then headed down to the launch to join Daviator, his brother, and his friend on the water.  Dropped a few crab pots then headed out for a few hours of fishing for a couple blacks and a couple lings.   Headed back in, had a pulled pork dinner at the lighthouse, then went to the campground to chill with my LS family for a few hours.  Our eldest son even had the courage to go up and do karaoke in front of the group!

Sat: Headed out to less than favorable conditions.  Only managed 2 reds, 2 blacks, a cab, and a ling.   Afterwards the potluck and relaxing!

Sun: Woke up late, tired, and sore from the previous days festivities.  Finally decided to do a couple hours on the water, glad I did.  The drift was fast and furious, but so was the bite.  For 3 hours straight, the process was drop line, hookup, land fish, unhook, repeat, and then peddle a half a mile back to start the drift again.  If you could get past the thick school of blacks (they often wouldn't let the rig get to the bottom) the reds and lings were on the chew.  Over the course of the 3 hours fishing (had to be off the water by 1:30 because I promised my boy I would take him pole poling)  I landed over 15 rockfish and 10 lings.  Final tally: 5 Verms to 19", 1 Copper, 3 blacks, and 2 lings.  Got in and poke-poled with my son for 1 (very) small cab.  Ended the evening in the excellent company of my Loose Screw family.

Monday:  Packed it up and headed home.  Already looking forward to next year.
